There's nothing wrong with cereal. Try adding sliced bananna or fresh fruit like blueberries or strawberries and had a glass of juice. If you're still hungrey, have yougurt and an apple.

I eat 1/2 cup (dry) of plain oatmeal. I add some spenda and blueberries to it. Then around 9:30 I have a banana.

Before hard rides I eat two scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and applebutter.

Breakfast is my favorite meal.

When I'm in a rush for an early workout I have chai tea with soy milk with a Luna bar (lemon meringue - my favorite flavor) or a piece of toast with 1 tbsp. of jam and almond nut butter.

For all-day energy the best I have found is McCann's steel cut oatmeal. It's slow cooking. I bubble it (1/4 cup in 1 1/2 cups water) before my workout, let it sit, and then after I add cinnamon, walnuts, raisins, 2 tbsp. ground flaxseeds, and sometimes a banana or a grated apple.

My favorite healthy waffle recipe: 3 egg whites, 2 tbsp. each of ground flaxseed, wheat germ, and rolled oats. I top it with 1 cup of blueberries (warmed on the stove with a little stevia, splenda, or maple syrup).

Oatmeal. I add a mix of dried fruit, or raisons, cranraisons, etc.
If I want it sweeter I add real maple syrup or honey.

Usually a few slices of toast with peanut butter during the week if I don't ride.
If I commute, I may add a cup of oatmeal to that around 9:30.
On my long weekend rides I'll eat more. Add a bannana or two to that, maybe a couple of bagels....pretty much anything I can scrounge that'll give me complex carbs to top of the glycogen levels for an hour or so of hard riding.....especially when I know I'll be out there all day.
Oh yeah.....always have coffee with that. Always.

My breakfast usually consists of oatmeal made with light soy milk with a banana cut up in it, and an additional cup of soy milk. occasionally I'll have a cup of kona coffee, but that's only if the wife was kind enough to brew a pot. :)

Pre-ride: Oatmeal + some protein powder and coffee. I just started some 7-grain cereal from Bob's Red Mill (http://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/index.php?action=showdetails&product_ID=18) which is a little gritty but pretty good, and high-quality carbs. A little cinnamon + sugar helps that down a little.

Post-ride (if applicable): scrambled eggs (try mixing in a tiny bit of sugar + grated parmesan cheese + chopped chives), whole-wheat toast, juice does the trick.

Today - Glucerna meal replacement drink. (In a big hurry.)
Yesterday - Banana and a small biscotti.
Tuesday - Cheerios
Monday - Cheerios

Actually, cereal, a piece of fruit, or a breakfast drink, with coffee and Crystal Light pretty much sums up my usual breakfast. I take a multi-vitamin, a fish oil pill, a garlic pill and an 82 mm aspirin also.

Oatmeal, no milk. A couple spoonfuls of raisons and a little brown sugar. A couple cups of coffee, black. This usually holds me over until lunch. Bob's Red Mill multigrain cereals are great, they usually stay with me all morning.

I'm not much of a cold cereal person, but I do like Frosted Mini Wheats.

hot high-protein grain w/ soymilk. if you don't like oatmeal, you should try something else! quinoa, bulgur, or couscous are the best, or brown rice. i'll make a pot of it at the beginning of the week so i have it in the fridge, toss a cup of it in the microwave with some soymilk, cinnamon, cardomom/clove, brown sugar/maple syrup/honey and dried fruit/nuts. when i first started eating these grains prepared sweet for breakfast, they tasted kind of funny, i wasn't sure if i liked them. now i'm completely addicted. so - if you don't like it the first time you might want to try a couple more times - it might grow on you!

otherwise a protein smoothie: 2 scoops vanilla protein powder, 1 banana, 1/2 cup vanilla soymilk, 3 ice cubes, 1 cup frozen fruit.

Grits. It,s a well established medical fact that grits stick to your ribs. As you need the energy each little grit is cleaved from the long grit chain attached to your ribs and directly enters the krebs cycle for oxidation.

Oatmeal is a winner, if you don't like it you might consider why and change that. I used to make it too pasty, but I changed the cooking method and it keeps getting better and better. I add a bit'o Splenda, a bananna, rasins, and a bunch of Cinnamon.

Other things I like for breakfast:
Shreaded Wheat'n'Bran with Bananna and a bit'o Splenda
Grapefruit
Grits with a couple of fried eggs on top
*Millet* - once the cooking method is perfected this makes a great break from the Oatmeal! (This one actually tastes better without any sweetner.)
Fresh Ground, French Pressed, Coffee!

Stone ground oatmeal. + spoonfuls of dark brown sugar. :) I need to add something healthier to the oatmeal besides the sugar. Later in the morning I either have a banana or an apple.

Just FYI, dark brown sugar = honey = sugar (and nearly = HFCS* for that matter). They're all primarily (99+%) sucrose (which gets metabolized to fructose + glucose).

You're not adding anything healthier (or less healthy) by using dark (or light, or medium) brown sugar instead of white sugar, you're just getting some additional "impurities" (and flavor, of course) :)

*High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is either 42% fructose/58% glucose, or 55% fructose/45% glucose depending on the formulation. The "high fructose" moniker scares a lot of people into thinking it's high in fructose relative to its overall composition. It's not (roughly half, same as sugar . . . ). It just means it's higher in fructose compared to plain ol' Corn Syrup, which is primarily glucose.

The usual:
half cup raisin bran, half cup mini-shredded wheat squares, 1 cup whole milk, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, two six-oz cups of coffee with half and half and 1-1/2 teaspoons sugar.
then only once or twice a week:

3/4 cup cold rice toaste in a little real butter in a cast iron frying pan (olive oil and/or a little bacon grease are tasty too), with two beaten eggs poured over, sprinkle on fresh ground black pepper and perhaps a finely sliced green onion, cook till set as desired, coffee or tea and perhaps some fruit.

Or
scramble two eggs, place in large warmed tortilla, sprinkle on some Cholula hot sauce, apply small amount of cheese then pour over two large tablespoons of hot (re-heated), home-made chile con carne with beans.

Yes, I've definantly got to cut back. I mean I am not trying to drop weight but just the health factor involved. Brown sugar is so much better then white. Just like whole wheat bread, brown rice and other things. I'm into that sort of thing. :) Just bought some raisins and bananas for my oatmeal though. I usually don't eat it with milk but might try some tomorrow.

While whole wheat bread and brown rice are indeed "better" than their white counterparts, the same is not true of brown sugar versus white sugar -- that is what I was saying. They're chemically the same thing as far as your body knows -- the brown part of brown sugar comes from a (very small) amount of molasses which is also just sugar with impurities.

If you're trying to cut back on sugars in general, that's one thing, but don't be fooled into thinking you're making a "healthier" choice by choosing brown sugar over white sugar (or honey, or maple syrup, etc.).

Thanks for the input. I was indeed 'fooled'. I think by my nutrition book. It is better stuff though taste wise. :)

My oatmeal consists of one table spoon of brown sugar, chunks of bananas and raisins with half a cup of (dried) oats. No milk. Not crazy about milk in it, grosses me out.
Its yummy. :) Good for a good morning ride with the team today.

My current favourite morning meal is as follows:

1 sliced banana
1 diced pear
1/3 - 1/2 cup quick oats
1 cup low fat soy milk
1 - 2 tsp sugar/honey
Cinnamon to taste

Mix all ingredients together and cook on the stove for about 5 minutes.

It's good with a bit of low fat natural yoghurt on top.

Not a fan of the pancakes/sausage routine. Makes me feel kind of heavy throughout the day.

My favorite is flax seed puddin. I grind 3 oz of flax seed into a meal. I add some soy protien power, organic cane sugar and about 6 oz of soy milk(my current favorite soy milk is Kikkoman "PEARL" Vanilla organic). I stir that up and let it sit 30-60 min to thicken. Before eating I add fresh fruit and some walnuts. I also like 2-3 cups of good coffee black. Caution: this is a high powered breakfast and can cause extra stress on chains and sprokets!
