Awe c'mon, admit it you've got a favorite rassler. Old skool, mid-skool, or new wave. Who do you like the best? Who do you love?

Me, Chief Jay Strongbow closely followed by Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka.

Andre The Giant! Randy "Macho Man" Savage, too(more for his presence than actual wrestling). I like The Undertaker quite a bit, too. How many times is he gonna come back, anyway? Always rooted for the 123 Kid, too, just because he seemed so small compared to everyone else.

Hulk Hogan, back when I used to watch that stuff.

Wow....it's been YEARS since I've even watched a single episode of any professional wrestling, but used to be really, really into it as a teenager.

From my old days:

Kerry Von Eric
Kevin Von Eric (didn't he get killed in the ring or something?)
Leaping Lenny Poffo
Andre the Giant
The Undertaker

Gotta be tons more....just can't remember them anymore. :(

Lex Luger
Sting
The Road Warriors

Mick Foley (Mankind), for being a real "pro wrestler"
Rick Flair, because he has been around forever
Andre, for being in "The Princess Bride"

And, of course my favorite mexican wrestlers, El Gato Negro and Senor Bagofcrap.

Junk Yard Dog! "JYD" was the Bomb! I met him twice while I was in the Marines. Still have a picture of me locked in an arm-wrestling pose with him at a meet and greet before a show in NC. LOL He was a very cool dude. Sad that an auto accident took his life. :(

Krusher Kowalski. He was a local wrestler back in the '60s. The guy who used to host the wrestling shows on TV was this little geek, and Krusher would always tear his shirt off and throw him around and stuff. Precursor to dwarf-tossing. Occassionaly the host would finish an interview by stomping on Krusher's foot or something, and once he even tore Krusher's shirt off, then ran like hell.

Yeah, it didn't get much better than a Friday night in front of the tube with your buddys from elementary school, watching wrestling, and a couple sixers of Schlitz.

Jeez, twenty-five posts and no love for Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart? Inconceivable!

On a slight aside, there's an very low-budget professional wrestling startup going on out in the Valley (the rural area east of the city, for non-BCers). It's on TV on Saturday afternoon, and it's utterly, gloriously crappy in every way! Such a joy to watch. One of the regulars is a fat guy—maybe 5"10", 280—who gets winded climbing the ropes. His signature move is knock a guy down and leap on him, belly to belly, all the way from the second rope. The move, needless to say, is devastating.

Just wondering. Anything like this cropping up where you all live?

I grew out of that when I was about 11 or 12. I can't help but to have heard of Andre, Hulk and Rock, but I wouldn't give a dribble of half-warm spit to watch any of that staged BS any more.

There have been a few attempts recently here in the Houston area. Nothing will ever compare to when I was a kid. Former wrestler turned promoter Paul Boesch had it going on here in the Houston area. Actually got to see JYD wrestling at the old Houston Coleseum, There was also wrestling Gilley's on Sundays. And yes the same Gilley's ***** tonk from the movie "Urban Cowboy".

I still remember the I.W. Marks commercial Paul Boesch would do between matches. It would just be a close up of his wrinkled face, wearing a fedora and a huge diamond in the ear. Totally cheesey

My brother has a great story (but since he's not here, I'll tell it) about working a construction job in a small town with a guy who had escaped from the communist Ukraine. They took him out to the local wrestling match when it came through town. At some juncture, with the referee being distracted by his manager, the evil wrestler dragged the good guy out onto the floor and proceeded to gouge his face with some kind of weapon. Never having seen anything like professional wrestling, the Ukrainian leapt from his chair, seized the chair, and cranked the evil wrestler across the back of the head. It amounted to about ten stitches.

The wrestling promotor actually pressed charges against the guy (seriously jeopardizing his "landed immigrant' status). In court, his defense was, "Your honour, I had to do SOMEthing! He was gouging his eyes out!" Case was dismissed.

Forgive me, but I have to add Booker T. Really cool guy, and we both go to the same guy for our tattoos!!!! My buddy did the flames on the arm, the dragon (I was there when he got that), and his wife's name. The sun was done by someone else.

I was friends with Mick Foley way back in the late 80's and early 90's (my girlfriend's brother was one of his best friends) He was just on the verge of making it, wrestling under the name of "Cactus Jack"

He is one of the nicest, down to earth people you ever wanted to meet.

The Rock is an extremely talented wrestler, both in and out of the ring. One thing people don't realize, you can be as acrobatic and entertaining as all get out, but if you can't fire up the fans in interviews and speeches to the crowd, you're gonna be second rate forever. People like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock and Ric Flair all had the complete package, which is why fans go absolutely WILD for them, (try to insult Stone Cold in Texas, Bret Hart in Canada, The Rock in Miami or Flair, well, just about anywhere in the South.)

One weird thing I've noticed, is that apparently the ONLY thing besides a land mass that Canada, the US and Mexico have in common is a love for pro wrestling. Seriously, we all go wild for it. Can you think of ONE other thing? Didn't think so.

Oh, and for all you guys who hate on Flair, you DO know these guys play characters, right?

Wrestling is about the only thing I can think of in "pop culture" that is more inane than NASCAR (a bunch or rednecks driving their cars in circles), and is completely staged to boot. I'd rather watch a tractor pull than "wrestling" - and I'd rather go in for major dental surgery than go to a tractor pull.

This isn't to say that the "wrestlers" aren't amazing physical specimens, or that their craft doesn't take a lot of work or talent, but sheesh! Haven't we all got more satisfying ways to keep ourselves amused?

Oh man, I have not thought about Wrestling in about 25 years. My favorite has got to be: Stan the Man Staziak. If that guy gave you the dreaded "heart punch"...forget about it.

Some of my other favorites: Dutch Savage, The Sheep Hearders, Playboy Buddy Rose, Rowdy Piper, Shag Thomas, Jimmy Snooka, Tough Tony Borne, Sandy Barr, and of course: Jessey the Body Ventura.

Man, give me a Coal Miners Glove Match, Cage match, or an Over the top battle royal from the 1970's anytime! What ever happened to "the best two out of three falls; or to a TV time limit!"

I always thought Rick Rude should have been in Predator instead of Jesse Ventura - he could have given the Predator a Rude Awakening.

Three Stooges are "PRETEND" too,

What the...???? Where did you get that notion?

I can't tell you how many times I've had to employ the straight hand in front of the face to defend my eyes against certain poking by older brothers....

And let me tell you.... as a kid, having a older, stronger brothers use the Iron Claw (Von Erich style), or attempt to actually do a Figure Four Leg Lock is not a lot of fun for the much littler younger brother....

At least wrestling has a storyline to follow. Sure, it takes skill to race cars, but I don't see the point, really. Waste of time and money, in my opinion. Well, a bigger waste than wrestling, anyway.;)
