Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Rant- Stop starting threads with "So"

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is not a grammatical rant. I'm just tired of all the damn threads that start with "So"

It's not just here, but a message board thing in general people like to open theire threads with some thing like: "So I was riding my bike the other day and..." or "So I was just wondering..."

Why not just say: "I was riding my bike the other day and..." or "I was just wondering..." What possible purpose does the "so" serve except to annoy me with it's conspicuous uselessness!

I've even caught myself doing it, and promptly punched myself in the face. In my experience, people don't talk like this. I know I don't talk like that. Why then do so many people start their posts with "so"? It's annoying. Stop it.

Please?

I do use it conversationally and hear others do so frequently. It's just kind of an attention getter. Like starting a sentence with 'look...' or 'listen...' or my personal favorite 'not for nothin, but...'.

Well that just makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Secondly, I do actually start sentences with the word "so" in real conversation. Maybe I'm just strange.

from now on, i'm starting all of my threads with "listen here." it's a great way to sound angry.
