When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as the small icon of a house and red, blue, green, dots surrounding your entire neighborhood.

When you click on these dots a PICTURE of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed. I was really shocked at how many of these people were in my neighborhood.

This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted.

Zero in my college's town or my hometown, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. My gf has almost been raped twice since I've been going out with her :(

I'll give you an address around my area to check out. 874 - 43rd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232.

This way you don't feel left out and get to see some pictures.

Not to detract from the good intentions behind these things but haven't they proved to be occasionally inaccurate?

There was one put up by a guy using state data and google maps which was subsequently hacked numerous times. One incident that I recall was the adding of all local politicians to the on-line sex offenders registry.

I guess the lesson to learn is that things on line can be hacked so don't tick off anyone who proves to be even vaguely competent with a computer. Other than that, tar and feathers ahoy.

Using this we just found out one of our co-workers was on the list. But the address was not up to date so now he is a guest of King County Jail. That was really spooky to find out somebody you have worked with turns out to be one of those sicko's

Edit: He is a level 3 and had moved in with a woman and her 4 kids we felt that he needed to be turned in.

Sad....and very scary.

Several thousand sex offenders were released during Katrina - so yes there is a humongous potential for error. Also those are only known that have registred. Those aren't those who haven't registered or those who haven't been found yet.

hahahha
theres like 3 - people that are like right next to me
and theres like 5-6 people neearby. Theres are 175 just in that section. lol
Seems like I live in the "cleaner" part of town. Moving towards the right of san ant0onio and its really really really really thick like 10 times thicker.

Despite the possible inaccuracies, this is the best way to prevent sexual crimes. It empowers neighbors to be vigilant and proactive, not hapless potential victims, and as scary as it is to see those dots near my house, it also makes me feel good to know that I have the advantage of knowing where these ****ers are. Yeah, I like it. Thanks for the post.

I trust you have all read this bit from the site?

Harrassing anyone on the offender registry is a misdemeanor and can be punished by both a fine and jail time. The purpose of this service is to allow you to identify sexual predators that you may come in contact with, not as a tool to hunt them down and run them out.

There's one just down the street from me, I pass that house every day. The disturbing part is, there is an elementary school on the same street. I know everybody on the list has a story to tell, maybe it was a boyfriend/girlfriend thing that went bad, but it still bothers me.

It's all about being aware....and teaching kids to be aware. Some people change....others don't. Look at serial killer, Arthur Shawcross, if the local police had known that he'd killed before (which was kept from them because he'd been run out of the places he tried to settle before that), the police could have caught him a long time before they did.

Cripes!

Not very many where my nephews live, but dotted ALL OVER the DC line going into DC at the border are perverts.... both home and work.

I had no idea DC was full of child molesters.

The sad fact is that most sexual offenses, particularly against minors, are committed by family members. You'd do better to watch your kid around Uncle Joe rather than the registered sex offender down the block. Family abuse is also less likely to be reported to the police as people hush it up in the family.

It's only something like 5% of abuse that is done by non-family members.

What's the big deal? How many people total live in that area? a million? I bet that's a perfectly average distribution.

TexasGuy
02-16-06, 03:50 PM
Yeah when you look at townds like NYC , DC or San Antonio
While there are say 175 in my area of san antonio, one has to realize that there is a population of 1 1/2 million i think.
and then remember that Dateline episode where they nabbed 21 people and then went to California nad nabbed 51 people in 3 days.

Unfortunately, Oregon does not currently publicize the registered sex offenders living within the state. Consequently, we are unable to provide any information about Oregon's sex offender population...

I certainly hope it's NOT a perfectly average distribution. There were so many dots I could barely make out the streets!

There aren't that many. Maybe a thousand sex offenders, tops.
In a city of 9 million, that's like 0.01%
Which would mean in your city of 130,000 there would be a total of 130000, about 14 of them.

You do realise that the purple squares are schools, right? Schools don't commit sex crimes, they're just buildings.

Other than that this map doesn't look that more heavily populated than any other of the random urban centres that I've checked.

Also I've noted that there seems to be be a high percentage of green squares which excludes crimes against children and ****. Yes they still consitute sex crimes but are probably not of such a grevious nature. Do make sure that there are fish in the barrel before you start shooting.

That went completely over your head...
It's called a JOKE. Lord help me do engineering for a $200 million building if I can't read the legend to the side..

But yes, I usually make sure there are women and children in the barrel before I start raping and molesting them by age, the youngest first.

This makes me sad...in a roughly 20x20mi landmass, there are over 400 sexual offenders.

And why are these scumbags allowed to live so close to the schools out here?

They won't have much of a choice if you leave them unprotected.

All I know is that if I'm ever sick enough to molest a child, I certainly hope I still have some brain cells left to be able to pull myself out of where I am and move to Oregon!

I AM STUNNED!! So I put in my address and up pops up a fella living just around the corner from my house. So I click on the house and low and behold...

I KNOW THIS GUY!!!!

I've only met him once so I can't really say I know him. But I met him, and he was really nice, and good looking. Hell...I sat next to him at the movies (which was where I met him because I took my friends daughter and her friend to the movie) He was my friends daughters friends dad...go figure that one out. Anyway...I am stunned. I don't know what to think other then OMG. His offence is aggravated sexual assault. I'm not even sure what that is. Is it worse then ****?

No worries, I'm one of those stick-in-the-mud parents who actually goes trick-or-treating with my kid. But not in costume, I promise...

Gee, I've got one about a block from my house and several within a two mile area, in an upscale middle class neighborhood. My mother's house, where I grew up, is in an old section of Clifton, NJ, near Patterson. There's only 1 in a two mile area. Go figure.

you know sometimes people get screwed and labled as sex offenders when they havnt done anything hanus like **** someone. Like some kid gets caught video taping some other kids have sex...bam instant sex offender. Does this person really deserve to be labled as a pervert for the rest of his life? never be able to move within whatever distence of kids or work anywhere with kids. Have a hard time getting hired anywhere for the rest of his life.

this is a true story, basicly this kid got his whole life effed over of a simple mistake.
