Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been experimenting with making my own energy bars for the past 2 weeks. So far I have made 7 different batches, some good, some not so good/unedible even for a dog. What are your favorite ingredients and recipes for your bars? Do you bake them or are they no-bake? I am trying to give mine some beter texture and crunch-any suggestions. here are ingredients in my last batch, which is arguably (among my friends) the best:
oats
ground up cheerios
granola
honey
chocolate chips
peanuts
powdered milk
orange peel
dried cranberries
oat bran
protein powder
enough water to mix it all up
hahahha...i tried the same thing, they usually come out like crap. or burnt. or a combination of the two :D
i would try and mimic the ingredients on labels. i have tried things like rice molasses (i think that is right? rice syrup...something like that)
hey, how about date paste for consistency??

I just eat Cliff Bars. I find they taste pretty well and the ingredients on the label seem to provide a pretty well balanced "meal". I find myself eating them when I don't have time to eat whether I'm working out or not. At $1 they are pretty inexpensive.
