Following JonR and Aerobat's inspiration, I rediscovered
my bread machine. Right now, I am enjoying a mouth watering, fresh, warm piece of homemade bread (with BUTTER!)

AAAAAAhhhhhhhhh...

:)

My wife wanted an ice cream maker for christmas. I am still waiting for a batch. Maybe if I leave it out when I go for a ride I would have a nice treat when I get home.

Hey Pete,

You had better jump on the bike right now. That bread is going straight to your hips. I would hate for you to lose that girlish figure.

Pete,

Just a word of warning. I had a bread machine a few years ago. Twenty pounds later I sold it at a garage sale ;) Better get out and ride. At least it's not raining right now.

Pete,
we have many recipes that you could try. Just name a type you would like to try out, and I will see if we have it. By the way there is one for peanut butter, bananna bread.

I guess when you're one of those "Sumo" guys, weight is not an issue! ;)

The best bread I've made was not in the machine, though I use it most of the time--but handmade, with sourdough starter I also made from scratch, no commercial yeast, just the wild yeast from the air, the real thing. After about six months in the refrigerator this starter was SO good... The bread was just indescribably satisfying. I think it brought tears.

I don't know how to do this with the machine, since the sourdough sponge has to rise about 12 hours minimum and then the dough has to rise another 12 hours or so.

Mac and Cheese rules! It's saved my sorry be-hind so many times, too! :D My hubby makes some killer bread, pretzels, and bagels. No bread maker here, dudes. He rules the kitchen most definitely! ;)

Of course, I'll eat anything that comes out of the breadmaker too! It's ALL GOOD... :D

Servus!

I feel your pain Bagder! Long ago I was an underpaid MP somewhere in Korea and lived on ramen noodles and tap water for TWO MONTHS, three meals a day because the military couldn't figure out where to send my check!

Amazing thing is, I go to the Asian grocer down the street to by the very same brand of noodles once a month.

I'm almost, probably, sure I'm going to get one of those bread makers, you've talked me into it!

In the meantime, remember, there's no bad pizza, some are just better than others.
(well maybe sp*m pizza would be bad)

:D

Dave,

The bread machine also makes fresh, yeast-activated
pizza dough!

You better be careful with that bread machine Pete or you'll have to increase your commute mileage to take the weight off.

I survived on Ramen (sp?) Noodles and Taco Bell (can't forget, cheap beer also) while in college. ahhh, the memories. 10 cent tacos on Tuesday and nickle beer Wednesday night.

Oh everyone loves ramen... there such great variety. Would you like Chicken or Beef flavoring with your dry tasteless noodles?

Badger, how can you be so right about clipless pedals (see "Check your gear" thread) and yet so misguided about ramen noodles?

Ramen noodles are versatile! There are many flavors available besides chicken and beef (though I grant that in a blindfold test they would be hard or impossible to tell apart); you can add fresh vegetables to the noodles, you can add sardines or other small animals to them, and if you're worried about the salt in the flavor packets you can just not use the flavoring....

I say, "Amen to ramen!" :)

Well, keep on the lookout for fire sales and distressed freight clearances--you might be able to find ramen in big quantities for next to nothing, that way, and pre-crushed. (Much easier to heat in a small bowl in the microwave if it's pre-crushed.) :)

GUYS!!! I weighed myself today at work, and I wiegh frickin 149!!! thats ten pounds more than I thought I wieghed. I don't have a breadmaker, so I'm not gaining wieght that way. I can't figure it out. Thats like 10 lbs in 5-6 months. Maybe it's muscle(I hope so), cause I've been riding outside everyday, and on my stationary bike, plus some weight training. I feel terrible though, I don't know where it came from,I haven't been eating alot lately, and I even quit soda a couple weeks ago. all I can say is dammit.

Well it is all a part of maturing physically. You are 17 and you will gain weight. I was 165 to 175 for 14 years then all of the sudden I am 200! I wore the same size clothes since high school, and now nothing fits so all new clothes time.

You got that right Hunter. I was the same way. Just wait til' 40! It just gets harder all the time to keep it off.
I used to do a lot of weightlifting, (still do some), and read a lot about it. I remember reading somewhere that if a bodybuilder gains 2 lbs. of muscle in a year he's doing great. So 10 lbs. in 5-6 months isn't likely muscle.
