Foo - Child labor laws, *slight rant*

THe job i just at a machine shop, is not 100% accessible to me right now. My employer called the New Hampshire Dept. Of Labor today, and it turns out that there are 17 occupations which the state considers Hazardous. People above the age of 16 can work in these situations but htose below age 18 need some forms signed.
So I have to sign a bunch of forms, and my school has to sign a bunch of forms, and my parents.

Just be glad they have not decided cycling is too dangerous for you.

Labor laws are there for a reason, at it is a major safety issues... basically it is a personal liability issue. I work in a resturant and we have equipment that is "under 18" inaccesable; and to be honest I would not let a minor use them.

Live a wait, you will be 18 before you know it!

Are you doing school to work? I did that with construction in some of high school, and it caused an endless stream of paperwork. In my experience, under the table was the way to go in High School. Otherwise it was a bureaucratic nightmare. Only problem for you is, working without workmans comp in a machine shop would probably be insane. Thats not to say that framing houses without insurance was much better.

Well once I get these forms signed, the 2 forms to work there, and then the 5 pages of stuff to get school credit for working there, i am good to go! I think it is school to work, I do get .25credits for every 120 hours of work

Yes, but they're generally overkill. If I remember right, Washington state doesn't allow anyone under 16 to go into a walk in freezer or use a knife. Meanwhile, I was driving tractors out in the fields at 12.

Way to go, man. I've always wanted to learn how to do machine-shop stuff, and it definitely would be a help in the one or two projects I wanna do before the summer.

Now you just need to find a nice corner of Teh Interweb to post pictures of all the stuff you make.
