BMX - Front Wheel build up...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was looking into getting new wheels for my bike and decided to get a new front wheel that is lighter (along with my long awaited cassette)
so heres the important part of the thread----
Demolition 36h 3/8" front hub VS. Odyssey Race Vandero hub 36h 3/8"
i ride no pegs and mostly trails...
KinetikBiker
02-18-06, 06:38 PM
or pick another hub...
oh and i was thinking about lacing the rim (which would be an Ody hazard lt) with some DT spokes...so criticize that too....

Either go with the Vandero, or get a G-Sport Marmoset or Tree.
KinetikBiker
02-18-06, 07:16 PM
tree = too much money
vandero (do you mean the race one or the original?)
and i was thinking about that GSport hub
as far as the Ody race hub, does anyone know if a kink axle will fit into it, because i heard that they make good strong 3/8" axles and i know they fit into vanderos and i also know that my fat ass will probly destroy that hollow 3/8" axle...

Vandero

race vandero
The only difference between the regular Vandero and the Race Vandero is the axle; the regular one uses a heat-treated 4140 solid 3/8" axle (which is the exact same thing as the Kink axle), and the Race one uses a narrower heat-treated 41140 hollow 3/8" axle. If you don't plan on ever running pegs, the Race will probably be fine. I wouldn't recommend it, though.

hmmmmm...
race it is then...i mean..i dont ever run pegs so i cant imagine bending it riding trails...
so thats what it will be
36h Ody Race hub laced with DT spokes to Odyssey hazard lt rim ALL BLACK

All black was sooo 4 years ago....get a chrome rim, Primo spokes in like 10 different colors, and a Proper 6061 green or gold hub.
Ahahaha jk.

its a front wheel, no chrome, the only chrome i every have on my bike is the back rim so i can stop. no exceptions.
what does everyone think of the Shadow cassette???
bmichaelx
02-19-06, 11:18 AM

that's the front hub
bmichaelx
02-20-06, 10:48 AM
The right one is, and it says it only has 2 berrings, so if you include the drivers berrings then is it 3 or 4 total? I don't know, I still wouldn't trust them.
KinetikBiker

that's the front hub
queens is right, i was talking about the BACK hub AKA- the Cassette (see my origanl post before you started typeing away thinking you knew everything)
bmichaelx
02-20-06, 07:28 PM
What the **** is your problem, I posted a pic of the front, and the rear(cassette), I just didn't want to take the ****ing time to change it so it showed only the rear. If the front has 2 berrings, then the rear isn't going to be any different(minus the driver). So **** off.
Chris King hubs are better.

I was fine with my no-name hubs too, until i destroyed them because they were unsealed and one of the bearings got #$!@*& up in the hub, but the lasted a good 2-3 years...

mine are sealed. the backs not a cassette, but i dont even want to go to any lower gearing...cassettes are too complicated anyway.
A set of BMX Chris King hubs retails for $568.
CMcMahon
02-21-06, 07:15 PM
And to imagine that for less than half of that price you can get an entire wheelset with hubs that work just as good.

That's in the eye of the beholder, and something tells me that his bike is just a little bit better for riding street (which, interestingly enough, is what he rides) than yours is.
My hubs cost more then half of his bike.

Hey I have a chance to buy some carbon fiber BMX hub. The manufacturer is called "T.H.E". I cannot find anything on them on the web. Anyone ever heard of that company? I think that it stands for someone's name. Anyhow the hubs had a price of $429 on them. I think that that is outragious. But I can have them for half or less.

did you ever fall on your head?
if i had pics i would post them.
my bike is definately way better for it's purpose than your race bike is. did you ever ask yourself why you were spending so much on a bike you won't use? i'll probably beat you in a race too . at the moment, i have 30-9 gearing, which is way more suitable for racing than 39-16. it works good to get away from cops too
But isnt mine a higher gear?
queensrider86
02-22-06, 06:32 PM
no, you have a "wheelie" gear
premiumbmx2005
02-22-06, 07:29 PM
he doesn't even race. i can beat him in a race with my 33-13 gearing on my 32 pound bike....with a flat.

Do you like not own a camera thats digital? (im not *****ing, im asking) Does the 30-9 work for getting away from school security too?, because with all the construction at my school theres lots of things to ride, but lots of security as well...
