Mountain Biking - Tell those posers to stay home!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We laugh every weekend out at the trail where we ride in Tampa FL (no names). I really think it's funny to see all these fat dudes in full-on race gear. Spandex shorts:eek: and $2500.00 bikes. Hope they don't scratch that Lexus SUV getting the bike off. I just like to think riding is less about the equipment and more about the sport. I suppose to each their own, gives us not so sporty guys something to laugh about. We really don't mind the girls in Spandex though!

I used to, well, I still do, rag on those types of riders but I met one guy who is 6' and weighs 310+ lbs ( no muscle at all) ride an extreamly sketchy section and finish it off with an 8' drop to boot.
It was funny watching this guy with his gut hanging down almost to his knees ride with some style and to pull of the drop, hell, we were laughing in amazment.
I am not saying that I never thought that the overly fat riders could be any good since I used to be one my self but actually seeing them ride smoothly is a sight to behold.

spandex should be illegal for someone that weight.
Hmmmm would that be Morris Bridge? Would they be S.W.A.M.P. club members? I have no love for Swamp rats (egotisical jerkoffs IMHO) but they do some trail work and throw around money and influence on behalf of our local trails. Now if they could lose the Holier than thou 'cause I spent more on my bike than you did 'tude i'd be fine with them.
BTW Morris Bridge is a mild ride at best. Try Alafia (also a SWAMP project) if you haven't yet. It's out past Brandon so I know you're not talking about it.

OOPS!
Hello fellow Tampa Rider!!
Thanks for the tip on the trail, is that the same as Bom Bouyet? I've ridden that, it's okay. Morris is just okay too, just closer to me and to it's credit, it's pretty fun. Lot's of college girls, yummy:p . I grew up on the front range of the Rockies in Colorado and lived for a while in the Ozarks of Missouri, I miss those rides!

Hey Martin
Alafia has some red sections that'll put a hurtin on ya!
Carter Road over in Mulberry is sweet.
Santos Trail in Belleview has a lot of variety in one place and a great place to ride. www.omba.org
Hard Rock and Razorback are both in Ocala (Northside) and they are sweet trails with a lot of technical sections and yes, actually some climbing. Hard Rock has a Freeride section with stunts and drops.
If you're into stunts and drops, you need to check out the T.O.E., you have to be a member of RidgeRiders to ride there as it's private property, but worth the $25/year to sign up. www.ridgeriders.net If you're interested, they're have a TOE Jam this Sunday, a small scale competition.
Personally, I'm going to Alafia this weekend, the Swampclub as Raiyn mentioned is hosting a Fat Tire Festival there. I'm not a member, but I've never been to a festival and signed up for the whole weekend.

Not about the fatness but posers bug me. In whistler we get our fair share of rich wannabees in all sports. Some of the wannabees are usetobees and sometimes surprise the other riders.
Those "big spender" do a lot to keep the LBS up and running so they can be easy on us poor people.

Thanks Raiyn.
We are going to hit Alafia this weekend, can't wait!
That's cool I gotta find out what's up this weekend. Between my girlfriend and wheelin / dealin my new ride I have no idea what we're doing or what the hell I'm riding. I may have to slap the knobbys back on the commuter bike just to have fun this weekend. If it rains I'll do a rail trail to get some base miles (I don't ride on wet trails here; chews them up really bad.)
P.S. See "Resurecting a Dead Horse" to see my new baby.
