Foo - Have you ever made a post on BF's that you regretted later?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yes and No...there have been times I might have been too harsh, in my non mod days I could definately e-slam someone into next week. I rarely post without some thought, so I rarely regret my posts.

I've made a few posts and/or threads that I was a bit brash with. But those have been rare and often lost to the depths of BF's before anyone really noticed.

Someone said something

How do you know that it's really a quote of a deleted post? Honestly?

Probably a couple here I've regretted, but far more on my blog, or in email. The stuff I put here doesn't really matter. There's one thread that I regret, because you can't delete your own thread. Having merton make fun of me for a post is saying something... I had a really bad day at work. I'll just leave it at that.

The "Girl in the Wind" gif is me waxing poetic. If Siu had a similar avatar it is merely coincidental.

After having thought things over, it would have been more interesting to start a forum with:

"Make a post on BF'S that you will regret later."

I posted a thread in FOO today (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=175127) that has gotten all of 10 views and no replies. I guess no one wants to give me feedback on my newly modified cycling log webpage. Now I regret posting it because I feel unloved by my BF family. I'm going to have a shot of rum or four and then go back to working on my studies for class tomorrow.

I was gonna reply cuda, but I was awestruck by the quality of your work. You rendered me speechless, and that is something that doesn't happen all that often. If everyone kept a cycling log like yours, the world would be a better place. Peace in our time would be at hand. It would never rain on weekends. Nobody would ever go to bed hungry. And every little kid would have a puppy and/or pony.

There, you feel better, don't you? :D

Being a mod, you are held to a higher standard. You guys do a great job. I visit some other forums that do not give as much attention to moderation as here. Often I find posters attack one another. People begin to take things personally. The end result is the dialoque regarding the particular forum theme suffers because no one wants to be sociable.

I guess secretly we would all like to be mods on bike forums. We would find stepping in on some running dialoque that has gone in a bad way is more difficult than we think.

Here is where a mod got on to me 2 months after I first started posting. I deserved it.

Any time someone on a forum says something proven stupid, people world wide will know. It happens, and often, so my theory is, if you can't handle that, don't post.

Wasn't that the running discussion about race or racism?

baj32161
02-20-06, 09:35 PM
Yes it was the infamous racism in cycling thread. For someone who claimed to be a university teacher, I found his repsonses sophomoric. convoluted and completely off the map. I should have ignored it after his first reply and remembered to never argue with an idiot. The attempts at insulting me were funny, and a bit ptiiful. Better people than him have tried to insult me before, but at least they had the wherewithall to do it to my face....oh well....no sleep got lost.

Cheers,

Brian

Barcelona Rider claimed to be a university teacher?! I must have missed that post. He was a teenager who had trouble putting together much of an argument from what I could tell.

I don't think I've seriously regretted any posts. I've deleted a few and made some serious edits to others to avoid potential regret, but so far, nothing's come back to bite me. I do sometimes feel like I'm wasting my time discussing things with someone who is intent on being stuck in one's views and arguing just for the sake of arousing annoyance. One exchange of posts with Barcelona Rider comes to mind, among others. I love when people exchange posts to help each other, and I enjoy lively debate and discussion, but certain people clearly are out with an agenda and are really annoying to talk to. Posts trying to discuss things with them are generally a waste of time. So is posting in, say, the word association thread, but at least that's an enjoyable waste of time.
