Anybody else having skunk trouble? I swear, this stinkin' animal is driving me crazy. It sprays every night, makes my whole house smell. You'd think they'd hibernate, or go south for the winter, or something. But no! Why sleep, when you can make the neighborhood reek instead?

Anybody know how to make my skunk move out?

Play C-SPAN audio at 90 dB, 24/7 - That or NPR pledge breaks. It would make me leave pretty quickly. :D

Wait for it to come out and get it in the head with a shovel. If you shoot it you might blow up it's stink sack. Damn the things you learn down south.

Well, let's see. I don't have a gun, so shooting it is out of the question. Any stores around here that sell fox urine, are likely closed at this hour. So, that leaves the shovel to the head. And whaddya know, I just happen to have 2 or 3 shovels. ;)

I had a female skunk living under my porch for a few weeks. We never bothered each other and she never sprayed or smelled. When I was outside, she would look as if to acknowledge me as she arrived or left. After she gave birth to a litter, she carried each one of them in turn across the road and set up housekeeping in a small culvert. She carried them the same way a cat carries her kittens.

This means war!
One can of beans for breakfast with a couple of hardboiled eggs should do the trick.

Or smoke it out with a homemade household smoke bomb perhaps.

It's not only bad to shoot animals, it's wrong and evil. I'd never ever do it just for sport. Poor little thing, it's not its fault that it smells like rotten eggs.

Sport?? To me that's not a sport. A sport involves something fighting back.

It is a "sport" in respect to the likes of bow hunting (Deer), especially after firearms come into play.

Oh yeah, just to be killing things with no REAL bonafide reason is simply ridicurous.
Example: Slaughtering sharks just for their fins...... < that's not a kosher reason.

Why don't you hire a private animal control company? They'll trap and relocate it to a "safer" enviorment. You could also bait it with poison and then you'll have to put up with the odor or decaying skunk for a while, and have material for another post :D

Trap.

Don't, whatever you do, don't poison it! My father did that once to a skunk that was living under our house. You think regular skunk spray smells bad, wait 'til you get a whiff of dying skunk spray. We had to leave for about a week. Nasty.

It's not me with the "problem". I would simply shoot it & throw it in the neighbors yard....lol
We had Possum & rat problem here. I pretty much cut down the possum population too nil & put a big dent in the Rat population.

We had the same problem. We just threw mothballs down into the hole. The skunk found a new place to live. But you're replacing one stink for another.

This also worked for keeping the a-hole neighbor's free-range dogs from pissing in and tearing up our front garden.

If you live out side the city limits i would just call it target practice. break out the 22 and have some fun.

Nope, I'm in the city. And I have two policeman for neighbors (nice folks, with large handguns). I think I'll try the powdered fox urine--wow, it feels ugly to say that

Cover the places where the skunk can get in with lattice or screen? Does It go out long enough during the day to try this? It has worked for me.

There is almost no way to shoot a skunk without it going off, even if you get a brain stem shot. The best way to do it is, invest about 60 bucks in a live trap, a trap that won't hurt the animal, just grab its leg, then you do as you please. If you get a squiril or rabbit, you just let it go. When you get a skunk, you slowly approach it with a garbage bag, slowly put it in the bag by covering it and then come underneath it, (don't try to pick it up and drop it in), and then drop the bag in a 50 gallon drum of water. You would think that coming at a skunk and putting it in a bag would get you sprayed, but it won't unless you move too fast, because skunks are very docile. Thats the only way to do it without the skunk stenching up your yard.

I used to work at the Univ. of MI. Our offices were set up in the CC Annex... a set of trailer-type/mobile-home buildings that were erected down the hill from the North Campus Computing Center building when they ran out of office facilities. At anyrate, eventually a family of skunks moved in under the annex. We eventually moved offices five miles down the street to a new building. It had no skunks but the roof leaked... onto our computers! Sometimes you just can't win.

2manybikes is on the right track here. . .

>>>Cover the places where the skunk can get in with lattice or screen?

They're nocturnal, so get up some night [whilst she's out] and saturate the place with mothballs. Do it for several nights and THEN screen her out. You don't want to trap her in there. I'd bet the screen alone won't work 'cause they're famous diggers and have all the gear they need to make quick work of a screen or burrow under/around it. They might not spend that same effort "escaping" back in especially remembering the mothballs.

BTW, I have $50 that I'll gladly give Michigander if he'd let me watch. . .from 20 yards. :) Might work tho' 'cause skunks have that befuddled head-up-their-rump thing going, but one fast move would set certain chemical warfare events in motion. Ever see one hit a target straight ahead of 'im? Cool critters.

Last thing. The cutest thing you'll ever see is a mother skunk with a trail of her kittens all walking in a row behind her. Hell, that possibility alone's worth keeping them under the house.
