Are you going to flip them up DWI style, too?

The Mt Fury I rode (fixing my nephews bike) had such a short top tube that drop bars wouldn't be able to turn without taking out the riders knees.

God, I hate those bikes. I use to crush them like crazy. I'd hit a curb and BAM! Bent tire at about 2.5mph, probably. They're so mass-produced that it's not even funny. Roadmaster is NOT a good brand.

I'd take the $53.95 that Walmart charges for a new mt fury and go to the (insert favorite charitable thrift) and get a decent bike, take the mrs out to dinner, and maybe even pocket a bit of leftover change.

The stem clamp won't be the right diameter, for one.
The brake levers wont actuate the vbrakes, for two (unless you buy some diacampe v levers for more than the whole bike.
THe whole idea is ridiculous, for three.

Maybe you could take a roadmaster, give it an uncut threadless fork and new headset, and mount one of each of every single type of handlebar ever invented. THen make it a fixed gear. Then weld a sidecar onto it. Then give it a *****-horn. Then give it streamers. Only then does the absurd-funny : absurd-stupid ratio increase past 1.

Then weld a sidecar onto it.

I'd have thought duct tape would be adequate.

You are going to have to ignore the thinly veiled insults above but the upshot of all of the posts is the bike isn't worth doing any upgrades. Any half-decent set of drop bars would cost 80% of the cost of your bike and a new stem, shifters, brake levers, etc. would make the cost of conversion way, way beyond reasonable.

The recommendation to visit a few thrift shops to see if you can find a fair quality road bike is a good one. You will have a much better bike for much less money.

I didn't mean to be insulting, lord knows, I've done some some cost-foolish time-wasting stunts myself.

My daily ride is a vintage Fuji Sagres that I paid 20 bucks for at the Salvation Army. Walmart doesn't have a bike that can even come close to comparing.

+1, What Hillrider said.
I speak from experience as someone who purchased a 24 inch Mt. Fury for my son during his inbetween years. Save your money and look for a good used bike, sell the Mr. Fury and use that money to fix up the name brand bike.
