Foo - Stupid Cell Phone Drivers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

At least the moron didn't kill anyone else.
It's regrettable when someone suffers a loss such as this woman did. I confess, as ugly as it must have been, it was a little amusing too. She could be a nominee for the Darwin Awards. (Or can one only qualify for the Darwin after being killed by one's own stupidity?)

Yeah, I think you have to die to get a Darwin. But she should at least get some props for trying. I feel sorry for this sack-of-stupid's child.

Serves her right. They should leave her arm off as a lifetime memorial token....heh.
& make that "arm with cellphone" a public view for all to see.

I was thinking of Darwin too. It's sad, but she only has herself to blame for being careless.

You can have her cell phone when you pry it from her cold dead fingers...

She can't really get a Darwin award because she and her kid are still alive to reproduce, but she sure tried.
They really should slap her around with her severed arm.

Yeah, if she had just been listening to her mp3 player with her headphones on, it never would have happened.

I have said it all along and I say it every day. The Government is all that much more stupid for not creating a nationwide law banning cell phones/text messaging from behind the wheel.

I've been staying away from that thread. I believe most states ban wearing headphones when on the road.
Clutching the cell phone...that's pretty grotesque.

Yes but they allow you to have one hand on the wheel and your attention to be elsewhere.
Like I said "Put the phone down and drive stupid!".

Call me an a hole but I think it's kinda funny. Maybe she learned her lesson about cell phones and driving like millions need to. At least her daughter or anyone else were not injured.!".-------

Phil, when you use the quote feature, don't write your post within the quote or it looks like the above. You can copy the tags and split the quote up and respond to each point or just make your full response below the original quote.

I was trying to color my response within the quote box. I have done it before, on another board, but forgot how.

It is funny, even if it is also grotesque. If the truck didn't have an automatic transmission, it's not much of a loss, cause she'll need an automatic now. I suppose like most of us, she is a thumb-dialler; if not, she'll have to learn. I work with a woman who has a fancy schmancy Mercedes Benz with a hands free telephone, transmitter in the sun visor. She tells it whom to call, the automatic voice confirms then she tells it to dial. One of the things I used to like about cars was no telephone--also about trains and planes and being way the heck out in the country beyond the end of the wire.
So far, I have used a cell phone four (4) times in my life. Eventually I'll lose count. Eventually I'll also need to buy one because those conveniences known as "public telephones" are becoming extinct.

Don't get me wrong. I have a cell phone. It's the only phone I have, but using it behind the wheel?
NOT AN OPTION!!!
They have voice-mail. You don't have to answer the phone when it rings.
If ya need to call or text there is no excuse for not pulling over to dial and talk PERIOD.

A driver has been charged with negligent homicide for killing a women while driving while using a cell phone. Charges will likely be upgraded to involuntary manslaughter as it was later determined he had drugs in his system as well.

Even in NY & NJ, I still see lots of drivers on their cells while driving instead of using handsfree devices.

Hands free devices dont even work. The though process of talking and listening (plus whatever you are thinking about) greatly impares your ability to drive. It's True!
