Foo - To Denver!

I'll be in Denver for a couple of days. What should I do? I was thinking about renting a bike and quite possibly riding it :eek: It'll be between March 15th and 18th so what will the weather be like? Any 'must see' museums, sights, whathaveyou? Anyone have a spare couch? ;)

The Natural History Museum is fantastic, City Park just east of Downtown. Dinosaurs, geology and mountain eco-systems are incredible. They get great traveling exhibits too.

Do you ski?, take the ski train from downtown Denver, to Winter Park. It will be the best skiing of the season in mid-March. At Winter Park you get Mary Jane ski area too, best mogul skiing I've ever experienced, bumps the size of Volkswagens. Yeee haaaa!

No ski here. I did find a place that rents bikes close to my hotel, though. I also checked out the museum and they have that BodyWorlds exhibit and the Wired to Win TdF IMAX movie. That should make for a good time.

I'm here in DENVER, okay the weather can or cannot be good. It just depends.

I have been to the Denver area twice on vacation to visit family. Here’s a brief non-native viewpoint. Depending on where you are coming from you may have some problems with the altitude (I came from Florida so it was extreme). Prepare to drink lots of water. I didn’t attempt any biking there because I knew I would have a hard time with the altitude. I was breathing hard just going up a flight of stairs. If you have access to transportation I would recommend going to the Rocky Mountain National Park. It is N. W. of Denver and a bit of a drive, but really beautiful. S.W. of Denver is Garden of the Gods Park. Cool natural rock formations. I also enjoyed Pikes Peak. There is a “cog” railroad that goes up the side of the mountain to the top. The air was so thin I was having auditory hallucinations. Wheeeee! I didn’t do a whole lot in Denver proper. I remember going to an Aquarium that was nice.

Weather is a crap-shoot in March, Spring blizzards are not uncommon.

Give yourself a day to get used to the elevation, then just go for it, but keep water with you if you venture into the mountains. My gf and I hiked up to 14k ft from about 10k ft and ran out of water at about 500ft from 14k. Sucked big time. I don't know how I made it back down in one piece.
