Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Referrals?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

when you look at someones profile what does it mean when someone has referrals?

A referral is when someone signs up to the boards and lists another member as the referrer.
In other words, if you tell someone about BikeForums, and let them know your member name, and they join and list you as how they found out about BikeForums, you get 1 referral.

I mean if refferal's were big things, anyone could just sign up lots of new accounts and reffer them selves.

I could see encouraging refferals in the early days when Joe G. was getting started. Now that BF has so many posts, threads, and connections its' "Google Juice" must be incredible. A regular gravitic singularity of a forum. Now if every place we have a link to linked to us in return? But then we might not want just everyone coming here. The mods have enough work as it is. I do find most of the ads interesting or at least pertinent to the thread they are in. When I can cough up my $25.00 I may just ask that the ads be left in  .
