I'm looking at a bianchi chromolite Cyclocross bike that is for sale, it is a year 2000... It has a threaded fork etc.. is it possible to convert a threaded to nonthreaded down the road? This is not a concern in the immediate future, but just curious for down the road.
Yes, it is possible to convert, but you will need a new heaset and stem if you do. Also, some bar sizes that are common on threaded headset stems don't have threadless stems available. If you have a 1" headset, you will find that brands availabe in threadless for that size are few.
And, don't forget a threadless fork too.There is no point to threadless just for threadless sake.

If you just want to be able to use threadless stems you can get a quill to threadless adapter for $13-20 (QBP brand from your LBS or Cinelli from several online sources) for that purpose. I have one on one of my bikes, and it works great.
