With temps hanging in the single digits (7 degrees F)...it's a wonder I was able to convince anyone to come out for the ride. It was a spectacular day, slightly cloudy with brilliant sunshine and Colorado deep blue skies.
Tony aka "Cable Guy" and Todd aka "Rollo" joined me on this beautiful and frigid epic day.
Suiting up:
Yours truly:
Finished climbing The Chutes, starting the grind up Goldcamp Road - we're just about the same altitude as the temprature inversion layer.
"Who's idea was this anyhow"?
Climbing a few miles up Goldcamp Road:
Cable Guy and Rollo with frozen boogers:
There's only one way...right?
Looking back down Cheyenne Canyon:
Top of High Drive, about to attack Captain Jacks:
Northside exposure on Captain Jacks was cool and snowbound, but still rideable:
The bright sun and blue skies in the pics hide the fact that it was below 10 degree Fahrenheit:
Trademark over the shoulder money shot:
Colorado deep blue skies:
Cheyenne Mountain:
And the trail goes down:
Gregger style over the bars money shot:
That's me bombing down the trail looking for trouble:
...and I found it. Overcooked a corner, left the bike on the trail and slid 20ft down the sidehill until Mr. Tree abrubptly stopped my slide.
One more...a panorama looking north over Colorado Springs from the northside of Captain Jacks (click the image for full size):
