even if you are in america, i just want to get a basic idea if there are any out there... my mum wants me to get training or something so i dont die...

whistler BC, or california, or colorado probably has something. if i was you i would just start off on really easy trails, and slowly ride more difficult trails with someone who knows what they are doing, and can help you if you get hurt. and get some pads and a helmet.

Google Downhill clinics and you will get a lt of hits.
Wayne Crosdale used to do one at BigBear, there is a very good one up in Whistler but I can not remember the guys name, maybe Mael will know. I have also seen some on the other side of the pond.
You can also call your local resort, if you have one, and ask them if they put on any clinics. A lot of the resorts do. Some are one day and others can be a week long.
