Check out this article on Swissstop brake pads. A friend of mine has them and really likes them. Anyone have them?

I would be willing to try them. Where can you get them (for Avid V-brakes)?

O.K. I bit. I will report back once I have some time on them...

It was $22.40 mailed to Texas. They mailed them to me USPS right away. I got the ones mentioned in the article, the RX in GHP. It took just a few minutes to replace them on the fronts of my Avid Ultimate V's. I have a Burley Alpha Q fork/Velocity Deep-V rims. I like the green color, they look cool. Adjusted them and off I went.

Initial impression: No better than the originals. Actually squealed much worse. I adjusted flush, with toe-in, then more toe-in. I also tried a little #400 grit sand paper on the surface. Again, I think these are unlikely to be much better than the originals.

I will keep fiddling...and update you if I change my mind.

Hang on to your money for now...

Two things you might try: Thoroughly clean your rims with alcohol and a scotch brite pad. Also, make sure your brake mounting bolts are tight enough.

I tried your suggestions. Mounting bolts were tight, further tightening did not help. Cleaning the rims with rubbing alcohol and Scotch Brite pad did the trick. I was suprised, there was not much build-up or dirt visible.

Thanks for the help.

Fantastic! I'm glad it helped. It seems some pads leave a residue on the rim that causes "sticking" of the pads. I've experienced this before myself. Someone else turned me on to the solution so I'm glad I could pass it on. :)
