Ever consider this?

From the first day I saw a fat tubed bike (Cannondale) I have wondered if anyone has tried carrying liquids inside the frame. Seems like valuable space is being wasted. Might have to be titanium. Some of those Kinetic conveyance events have done stranger things.

UK framebuilder Tony Oliver (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1852233397/qid=1140543393/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_0_4/026-4442368-5965247) has built tandems with fuel storage inside the down tube.
Im not sure of the details but you need to close off the BB shell, use solid waterbottle threaded brazeons and have an opening for liquid at the to and bottom ends of the tube.

There are a few triathletes with bikes that have water delivery systems in their large tube frames, i.e. Natashia Badman and I believe Lances TT bike has something like that, but not sure.

Suggest using plastic liner inside tube for holding liquids to avoid bad taste.

If I'm going to go to the trouble of sealing off the chambers and whatnot, them I'm putting helium in the tubes. :D Of course, that's been done...

I was thinking of a way of creating a water tank for touring, but it needs to be easy to fill, and so far nothing really recomends itself as much as portable water bottles I can move to the tap.

It's just not practical. Think of it for a second. How do you clean the container? What would it be like sloshing around in there? How would you access the water?

If you were touring, what you want is the lightest, most convenient way to fill up. Having to drag your frame to a tap doesn't strike me as convenient.

Appart from the heat factor, carrying your water on your person is much more efficient than waterbottles or attempting to full your frame full of water.

It seems like it would be pretty simple to run an airhorn of something like this... you could just attach a presta or shraeder (sp?) valve to refill with you handpump. I'd say it seems like it would be a pain to get high enough psi in their to inflate a tire or two though. I'm of course basing this off my warped common sense based idea of physics and fabrication :rolleyes: so take with a grain of salt.

I'd love to hear if anyone has done this even without an oversized DT.
