I'm sure this has been asked before, so I'll be quick: is it possible to put a 9 speed cassette on a dura ace 10 speed (7800) hub?

Nope. You can put a 10spd cass on a 9spd freehub but not vice versa.

The 7800 hub spiles are deeper, only allowing the 7800 casette to fit, but the 7800 cassette will fit any other 9 or 10 speed Shimano hub.

Also, Shimano 9-speed cassettes will fit on all non-Dura-Ace 10-speed freehubs. Dura-Ace 10-speed is the only oddball here, because of the higher splines required to not strip since the freehub body is aluminum for light weight. Other than D/A 10-speed freehubs, all Shimano 8, 9 and 10-speed freehub bodies are compatible with all all Shimano 8, 9, and 10-speed cassettes. And of course, D/A 10-speed cassettes will fit on other Shimano freehubs.
