Does the 5600 Shimano 105 Cassette fit the 6600 Ultegra hub?

I'm fairly sure it will. My understanding is only the 7800 hub is spefic to the respective cassette.

It should, requires a spacer(washer) to fit the nine speed freehub body. The ten speed freehub will not fit a nine speed cassette.

That's true ONLY for the 10-speed Dura Ace freehub. The 10-speed Ultegra and 105 hubs will accept 9-speed cassettes.
Also, I believe the 10-speed Dura Ace freehub will accept any Shimano 10-speed cassette including Ultegra and 105. As above, it won't accept 9-speed cassettes from any group.

Not saying you are wrong but I got up and looked at the catalog, last years. According to it the ten speed Ultegra freehub will only accept the ten speed cassettes.
This is as I remember from asking the rep a while back. I had some 28h rims and wanted to build some wheels that would take nine or ten and no one had the nine hubs anymore. I asked Stephen(our rep) and he said the ten Ultegra hub would not take a nine cassette. I will try and put one on tomorrow.

I posted this on another thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=175765) just now, but it's worth going here as well:
All Shimano 9-speed cassettes will fit on all non-Dura-Ace 10-speed freehubs. Dura-Ace 10-speed is the only oddball here, because of the higher splines required to not strip since the freehub body is aluminum for light weight. Other than D/A 10-speed freehubs, all Shimano 8, 9 and 10-speed freehub bodies are compatible with all all Shimano 8, 9, and 10-speed cassettes. And of course, D/A 10-speed cassettes will fit on other Shimano freehubs.

I'm confident Tim and I are correct. What did you find?

I found that I did not have a shimano ten speed freehub. :) All the bikes that have ten speed on them have Kyseriums.
I think I need to quit listening to the rep.

Thanks for checking. If Kyseriums can take 8/9/10 without a spacer, then Shimano freehubs should be able to do the same. Is the rep paid by Shimano to uphold the you-need-all-new-drivetrain-components line?

We have a new '06 ultegra wheelset at the shop, and it's deep-splined 10-speed only.
Note this is a full wheelset, not an 06 ultegra hub on some other rim. I'll check the book, (and try to measure by hand) later today.
I'll get the specific model numbers, too, to be sure we're all talking about the same thing.
'06 R500, R550, R560 wheelsets are 9-speed cassette Ok.

I thought you needed a spacer for a 8s cassette on the newer Ksyriums. Maybe I'm wrong though. You don't need a spacer for 10s on them, and I'm fairly sure that 9s went on without one too.

Wheelsets: 06 Ultegra and D/A wheelsets are 10-speed only. R500, R550, R560 wheelsets are 8/9/10.
Hubs: 06 Ultegra hub is 8/9/10 (different hub than on the wheelsets)
Not sure about the spacer-on Ksyriums issue. The 10-speed cassette is 1mm narrower than the 9-sp. cassette, but I'm not educated enough about freehub body dimensions or locknut interfaces to know for sure who needs what.

"Hubs: 06 Ultegra hub is 8/9/10 (different hub than on the wheelsets)"
Excellent. I misordered some 28h deepVs and have been trying to find a hub to fit that was not lots of $$

Just to add a little corroboration to what's already been said: I just bought the 105 10sp cassette (ebay $47+Shipping fyi) and put it on my Korso wheel, which was stated as Shimano 8/9/10 spd compatable. Fits perfectly and now I have a nice 10sp training wheelset for a total of about $160 including shipping.
