I am rebuilding the above bicycle. When the LBS took out the bottom bracket it was the old style, not a sealed unit. It measured 123 mm in length. They had a 122 mm Shimano sealed unit and I planned to use it. Today, when we were installing it, it became apparent that the inner chain ring would now interfere with the right chainstay. I have read that some of the older bottom brackets were longer on one side than the other, I assume to alleviate the above mentioned problem. We have ordered a 127 mm bottom bracket hoping that the inner chainring will then clear the chainstay. Does anyone know if there are sealed bottom brackets that are built with a longer crank portion on the right side to address my problem? If so make, model, availability, supplier, etc. Project on hold!!

So far as I have run into, the sealed units are made to a fairly consistent program of offsets. The old style were too, but since they are flippable it can lead to some confusion on the matter. If in doubt, a good shop should be able to tell you what size/type you need without much trouble.
