so I did a practice crit today with my team. some guys from duke and unc came out, and we had a grand ol time.
I ended up getting 5th...out of 5. there was probably 20 or so people at the start. here's how it went down, A's and B's werent allowed to attack until the first 30 minutes were up, cause thats when the C's were racing. I bridged up to a few C breaks, and sat in, and when they sprinted, I went back to the pack. so there was probably 15 or so people in the race then. Then someone broke away, and got a pretty good gap. I bridged up, and then there was a breakaway with like 5 people, myself included. there was a cat 2 sprinter, another guy who should be a cat 2 sprinter, and a guy who is an overall beast, who also should be cat 2, but its only his second year riding. then there was a duke guy, who was probably about as strong as myself. so I was kinda screwed. I just tried to stay on, which I did fine. we stayed away for the rest of the race, however, it wasnt till the end that I realized that after the gap got to like 20 seconds, everyone else dropped out. I didnt contest the sprint cause I was dead tired, and I got gapped about 1 yards before the sprint got started. so I got 5th. out of 5. I wasnt too happy, but I'm glad I stayed with a bunch of A's...I still have some training to do, namely 20 or so second intervals, cause that seems to be a weak spot for me. a good time was had by all
oh, and BTW, I finally got to use my michelin pro lights. they are the most awesome tires ever. I got them right before I broke my wrist, so I really only got to ride them once, in a not-so technical race. they hung on like glue, though, and rode really nice. highly recommended.
