Great Day to watch a bike race. Pictures can be found at http://www.pbase.com/bakers/amgen_tour_of_california_stage_2
Most of these were shot about halfway up Sierra Rd. It was nice to be so close to these great riders.

Too bad the San Francisco race was cancelled. After watching the race today, I really appreciated the San Francisco race since they did laps around the city. It is nice to see these bikers twice, even better to get 10 times.

I hope to see the time trial tomorrow.

Awesome! California can be just as pretty as any part of Europe! I drove that part of the route the day before they raced it. Absolutely gorgeous country. Why does my bike have to be broken!

You got a lot pics going up Sierra. Do you want to submit some to the Grassy Knoll stage 2 gallery? The Happy Valley KOM was covered really well by many spectators but the album could use some more of Sierra Rd. TT shots from Wednesday would be great as well! When you register, you can provide the url to your pbase album so viewers can check out the complete collection.

The prettiest part of the course will be coming up in stage 4 (IMHO). They will be riding down highway 1. Of course they wont be able to look at the scenery, but for spectators, the coast is very pretty. One part that they ride past is Point Lobos http://www.pbase.com/bakers/point_lobos. A little further out from where the stage starts one can watch whales. The last time I saw humpbacks breaching http://www.pbase.com/bakers/monterey_bay_humpback_whales_breaching.
Of course if they were really going to do this, I would have sent them through the Sierras (they may need snow tires right now). Yosemite is beautiful, including the hike to half dome (I would make them mountain bike to the top)

California has lots of beautiful areas, as do many parts of our country and the rest of the world. I need to go back to the Alps.
