"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - who were the idiot riders, Stage 2?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I marshalled during stage 2 in San Jose. There was a group of club riders, probably 20 guys, riding the race route about 5-10 minutes in front of the tour riders. These guys failed to stop at my intersection at the stop sign  ! Lucky for them we stop the cross traffic which didn't have a stop sign, otherwise there would have been about 10 riders t-boned by a Ford Taurus! If anyone knows those guys, have them send a pleasant thank you my way!

Which club are they from? Probably Stanford. :D

Didn't see what club but a bunch of them were FAT and should not even be on a bike much less a club. It was funny when they did come onto the finish line and everyone started screaming and all you see are these fat guys.

That's California for ya . Always a cheery attitude even when they don't know what the hell they are rooting for.
Happy, happy, happy! :)
It's due to the year round perfect weather. :D
In Philadelphia, they would have laid those fat guys out or at least thrown beer at them... ;)

I think it's sad that they had to do that! We weren't cheering them, just laughing! If the police officer at our intersection didn't have to stay there, he said he would have stopped all of them and issued a ticket.

I watched the coverage, and saw a few times when there were cars on the course (apparently not team cars) that were in places the riders weren't expecting. There was even a CHP car that almost took out one of the riders in the breakaway. Are some of the roads not adequately closed to traffic?

Yeah, what a hell was up with that? That CHP could have easily run over all three of them, if they didn't react in time.

my experience has been that overtraining gives you an attitude (sometimes depression) and many "elite" riders who are not good enough to catch a ride on the city transit don't have much of a real life and are therefore pretty judgemental.
gotta have some deep denial sometimes to keep doin' what you are doin' even tho you are hatin' the results :D :D :D .

the road was closed hours before the race except for local traffic. some spectators drove up early and parked all day. we hiked up at 11:30 and there were few cars driving around -- not a problem from what i saw.
hey, there are problems even up on la alpe, eh ;) ?
and nothing wrong with cali....it's one of the few refuges of sensibility left if ya know what i mean ;) ;) .
