Mountain Biking - 6'4" rider looking for setup advice (pics)

I'm fine-tuning my hardtail build for the upcoming season and I would like to make sure I have my stem/bars positioned correctly. I would love it if someone my height could post a pic of their rig so I can achieve some sort of baseline before buying new components. I went from a 22" to a 20" frame, and the geometry is throwing me off.

Here is the current setup (130mm 15 degree rise stem, flat bar):

I feel stretched out/hunched over, so I'm thinking about going with a 90mm 15 degree stem and possibly a riser bar to bring the controls closer. I found a good setup on Pricepoint (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/13493-135_THODU4_KIT-3-Parts-72-Stems/Thomson-Elite-Stem-w_-Free-Sette-Duo-Riser-Handlebar-COMBO.htm). Opinions? I did a search and couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for.

well, I have a roadie point of view, but I think it applies somewhat, but I think you ought to measure your old bikes dimensions built up, like saddle to bar drop, length, seat height, setback, etc. then duplicate the setup using different size stems, saddle adjustments, and seat heights.

I'm like 6'3" and I use a 120 or 110x10deg and risers. 130 just seems excessive to me.

Do you have any pictures of you sitting on your bike in your riding position? That might help us visualize.

This will totally help. I have tried to do this with every new bike. The geometry might be different, but the relative position of your feet/hands/seat should remain relatively similar. Time to get the tape measure...

I should have measured before swapping all components onto the new frame... oh well.

Well unfortunately I am currently set up on a 20" 29er. So things might look a little different. Like my seat post is jacked up all the way...Let me go find someone to take a picture.

My old Stumpjumper M2 was 20" c-t , with a 23" top tube and a 135mm stem . The stem on your bike looks longer than 130mm . If that frame is 20" from c-t the seat looks a bit low. what is your inseam length? How old is the frame ? I know todays frames have longer top tubes and you would need a shorter stem to get the proper position ?

The frame is from Cambria - bought it earlier this year. Here are the specs:

• 20" SG Oval Titanium.
• Actual Top Tube length: 23 1/4"
• Head Tube length: 5.512"
• Seat Tube Length: 20" Center BB to top of Seat Tube or 18" Center BB to Center of Top Tube
• Standover Height: 32"
• Headtube size 1 1/8"
• Bottom Bracket size: 68mm
• Seatpost size: 27.2mm
• Front Derailleur/Seat Collar: 31.8mm
• Weight is 3.5LBS (20" frame)

Will jumping from a 130mm to a 90mm stem be overkill? It equates to about an inch and a half decrease I think (approx. 5 1/4 to 3 1/2).

I think it would. I think you ought to see if there's a shop near by that would let you put that bike in a trainer or something and swap a couple on and off. Or see if they just have like some $3 ones in different sizes you can buy to try to get a feel before you actually buy something nice.

Just an update:

I ended up with a 100mm Thomson stem and Sette Duo riser bar combo. Thanks for all the advice. Initial test rides feel great, and I can't complain about the look either:

That's lands end creamy moosehide with sheepskin lining. I like them. That rubber sole makes they work well for outdoor usage as well. You should get a pair, you wouldn't regret it.
