well, im committed to being carfree when i move into my new house, mainly for selfish reasons, gas+insurance= $460/month im under 24 and insurance is expensive when nobody in this county can drive, and i just love riding. everytime i tell a friend about my decision they comeback with questions about rain, hauling stuff, and needing to go out of town, well, i have been out of town on my own once in my life and i didnt really need to, and i can get a trailer that moves everytthing i need and i can get raingear!!!! does anybody else have this crap to put up with, i genuinely dont like the car culture it annoyes me! cant wait till i move, right now im too far to ride to work, but ill be 5 miles flat with no stoplights and amost all speed limit in the 25-25 range with lots of 90 degree turns!! yayy, well, i need the most breathable raingear thatll keep me dry in the florida 'flash downpours' that last about 10 minutes but the drops are big as golf balls, im robably going to get a bob trailer, and hitch a ride to the store with my roommate a few times.

It reads like the problem with the crap is that you talk about it without doing it so there is a point of contention. Do it and don't bother anyone and there should be little or no "crap". No one gave me a problem when I dumped the car. The worst is the family- Family member: "Don't you miss having a car?" Me: "Never" End of conversation. Sometimes I get- Stranger: "What do you do about___?" Me: "No problem, I just ___." End of conversation. Friends won't harass you about trivialities. The reality of actually having fun socking money in the bank and keeping your health up eliminates all hypotheticals- they can't argue with success.
I miss those Florida downpours when I ride in the mid-atlantic "Winter Mix".

Good luck with the move. I hope all works out. Be patient, and wait the rain out, if it's only 5 minutes.

Don't let other people annoy you. I know, easier said than done.

two replies:
I'm not interested in having a car.
I just prefer it better this way.

In my opinion, a 2-wheel trailer with more weight capacity might be better.
For a car-free person who only has one trailer, I think the trailer should be one that can carry a lot of stuff. One-wheel trailers aren't (and don't claim to be) useful when you need to carry stuff that's particularly large or heavy.

Shoot, if you can take Florida rain, the rest should be a breeze... I remember Florida rain; enter the intersection bone dry, exit the intersection soaked to the skin after riding through a wall of liquid sunshine.
