I have a aluminum road frame with vertical dropouts that I want to convert to track dropouts. I have access to a metal working shop and have a professional willing to do all the work for me for free. However I have two questions. Where can i find track dropouts to purchase that will fit my bike? secondly, do I need to find aluminum dropouts to match the aluminum frame or can i weld steel to aluminum? ANything else that I need to know? Thanks

Adam,From the content of your post,it's clear you don't know much about welding.That's not ment to be a put-down in anyway,only stressing the point of your knowlage in this.First steel and alum don't mix,you would need alum dropps.Second,even with a pro to do the work he would also have to know alum welding and frame working too.
If ti were my project I'd start with a good quality steel frame---something like 531.Steel in a lot easer to work.Easer to get steel drops.Easer to re-space the frame for fixed gears etc.and easer to paint when the job id done.Check around quality frames can be found for under $100.---sam
