Bicycle Mechanics - Bontrager Camino rims, anyone have any experience?

So, I'm eyeballing the Trek 7.3 FX (http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1327010&f=26) for use as a city commuter.

Now, the specs list: "Alloy front, Shimano Deore rear hub; Bontrager Camino rims"
All I'm trying to do is get a sense of what the sturdiness of these rims are. I'm a big guy (6'4", 250lbs), who will be adding panniers with stuff in them and I want to make sure that they won't just fold over and die on me. Are they single or double walled (I'm supposing single), but to have some solid stats would be nice.

I've searched the net and the forums to no avail. I've also visited the Bontrager site, and they don't even list them as being products, which is annoying. Is it another Bontrager?

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I wrote Bontrager asking the same question basically, and here is what I got:
"Thanks for writing. The Camino rims are a basic OEM double wall aluminum rim."

If anyone out there in a position on influence is reading, it'd be nice to have these kinds of things either populated on the end product manufacturers (Trek) site, or to have an OEM section on Bontrager, since it seems like a ton of what they sell is actually OEM bound parts.

Anyway, just adding to the knowledge pool.

I agree...there is simply not enough information on thes kinds of issues. It makes it difficult to be an informed consumer. I would gladly by loyal to amore forthcoming company.

BTW, I was looking into the FX 7.3 and chose to go with the Specialized Sirrus Sport instead. It is a little pricier, but in test rides, the Sirrus is soooo much more manueverable, lighter and more forgiving on my back that I was willing to pay the little more. The regular Sirrus is available at roughly the same price as the trek. I'd recommed looking into it.

You know, I ended up going with the 7.5 FX Disc. Why the disc? Well, I'll be doing 3 season commuting, and I've always heard that they are better in wet weather braking. That, and they look cool ;).

Agree on the nifty look of the discs. They definitely impress.

I got the 7.3 as well, however I switched to drop bars w/ a spare set of 105 brifters I had laying around. One day I'll finish the project and trade the stock calipers for some canti's

FWIW, I have about 750 miles on my 7.3 some over some fairly rough pavement. I have yet to have a problem with anything on the bike.

I started at 247 pounds in March, down to 207 now, so I'm no light weight myself.

A long shot, but does anyone know the weight of the Bontrager Camino wheels??
Trying to decide if they're worth upgrading. If I'd drop a couple pounds I'll do it but less than that is iffy for me not being a weight weenie.

I have these rims on an '06 GF Tass and just weighed the rims today to see if it was worth upgrading. FWIW, this is without skewers, but with rim tape still on.

Front: 989g
Rear: 1189g
Total: 2174g

Hope this isn't too late to help anyone out. I also submitted the weights to WeightWeenies.
