Touring - yes another trailer question...

im going on a cross-country tour

Im scared of the BOB because of the stress on my bike Trek 1000 and i have heard of it throwing bikers off

any advice thanks...

I used a Trek 1000c on my last tour using a BOB. The aluminum frame flexed a bit under the weight, which may have been worse if I had used panniers, but didn't have any problems other than that. Just a note, if I have to use this bike again for a tour, I'll change to V-brakes. The weight (which would be there with a BOB or with panniers) made it a little scary on the downhills when using cantis.

I towed a BOB trailer for many years and never had a problem with it. Never fell while towing it and as long as I kept the speed down to 25 MPH or lower I had no sway either. The BOB trailer seems to be the most popular trailer from what I have seen anyway. There is a learning curve when using a BOB but once you get the feel for it you shouldn't have any trouble. That said, I sold my BOB and went to a Burley Nomad. The reason for this was not because I thought the Nomad was any better but rather because one of my recumbents is not built for towing a BOB trailer. Just my opinion...

SOunds like an urban myth to me.

You also might want to check out the brand of Carry Freedom. They have one that folds and packs in a few seconds. Heard of someone pulling theirs across Australia. You won't have any problems w/ the BOB however.
