Touring - Just bought a new Fuji Tourer

I just bought my first new bike in 25 years, a new Fuji touring bike. It listed for $903, but my LBS gave me a deal for $799. It has a steel frame. Anybody have one of these, and if so, how do you like it?

It's a fine bike for touring. I bought one for my daughter last year and we did 3 weeks on the Lewis and Clark on it. It's not perfect but if you change the chainrings to a 48/38/24, it will be geared just right for touring. You might want to get another rear rack as well since the one that came on the 2001 model was pretty wimpy (we had to buy a new one in Lewiston, ID).

I bought a new Fuji Touring bike last year and love it. I break a spoke on the rear wheel and had it rebuilt. I added a Brooks B17, a front rack and Arkel bags. It's a very comfortable bike to ride.

I have one too and yes, it is very comfortable to ride. I am sure you will enjoy yours for many years to come :)

I have the '04 Fuji and really like it as well... well, except for the rear wheel spokes popping on me. Seems they fixed that problem. Like most everyone here, I replaced the cheap rear rack (with a Jandd Expedition), put on a Jandd Extreme front rack (needed to use the P-clamps) and a B-17.

FWIW...I saw a '06 Fuji Touring at Performance the other day. Amazing they had one in stock. It had some beefier hubs and those top mounted in-line cyclocross brake levers. Good for Fuji!

I just got one last month, I'm heading out on my tour to Guatemala in just over a week. So far, it feels great. It's also got a very nice little yellow stripe on it, so I named mine The Bee. I have a Blackburn rack on the back and a Jandd rack on the front.

Respoking a wheel or building a new one is that hard. I generally rebuild all of my wheels on most of my bikes shortly after getting them. If you don't want to build wheels, find a builder that will do it for you (probably $25 to $50 per wheel). Have them use DT Alpine III spokes. They are stronger around the head and stand up to all kinds of abuse.

I bought one three years ago. Have taken it on three major tours. Rides fine. I had the spokes changed out from the get go almost. Started breaking spokes right away.
THe shop I bought it at, gave me a great deal on spoke change out because of this problem. Agreed spokes are wimpy for touring and carrying weight.
Think of getting another upgraded touring bike. I am at the stage of my life, might be doing serious stuff soon. Planned trips. May across south of France, Montpellier to Biarritz and in the fall Perpignan to Lake Blanton in Hungary.
Thinking about a Bianchi. Fuji componentry could be better for serious riding. Is Bianchi good enough? My wife hopes so.

I toured on a fuji S-12-S for years, and now have a fuji touring. I swear by it...looks, feel, and of course price. Makes a great statement in favor of free trade, as well; I love being unimpressed by Trek-anything.

The spoke problem should be resolved. There were problems with spokes coming from China last year, and many wheel/bike companies had issues.
