It looks like Shimano is styling their derailleurs of the X-9 now.

Below is a link to this page after it was processed through an online translator. The English is pretty bad but you can get the jest of what is being said.

According to what I've heard, "Dual Release" is apparently meant to be Shimano's retreat from Dual Control. It's like the old and familiar Rapid Fire but also allows (with appropriate trigger angling) a thumb to press up on the far trigger in a similar style to SRAM's triggers.

with the way those look, I'll just stick with my single speeds.

Not to break all of you guys fun in laughing at Shimano but check out BikeMagic or SingleTrackWorld about Shimano 2007, they are new ideas and new stuffs that will make SRAM list of idea for a new shifter style shortened, Dual Control will still be there although im not sure why you guys are so against dual control, rear derailleur are now offered in Low Normal or High Normal but the thing that got the most attention is the new Shimano Rapid Fire Plus with Dual Control, it means that instead of the traditional rapid fire (push pull), you can also do that push push type like SRAM. Some people say that Shimano is copying SRAM but I think Shimano is trying to make it convinient for all type of riders cause I like Rapidfire and Im thinking of trying out the Dual Control cause it looks cool and I love testing out new technology. Furthermore I dont understand whats wrong with low normal rear derailleur? I think its a great idea and people should open their mind and try it out

Yes, dual control will still be around..for the road set. If dual control was so great, then how come shimano has dropped it on the lx and xt line? If xt doesn't have it, xtr is bound to not have it.

Did anybody noticed the six bolt rotor? A great improvement over the pricey centerlock design! ;)
My biggest beef with Shimano is sluggish shifting under load. Am currently running XTR's on two bikes, one low normal (Rapid rise) the other standard. Both exibit the same slow resonse that I have had from every Shimano RD that I have used.( XT, LX, Deore, Alivio, Acera, Altus,) Can't wait to wear them out and go with X-9 or X-O!

Yeah, it seems for the year 2007 Shimano is giving riders more variety of stuffs to play with (I wonder how SRAM will respond) Examples are Dual Release Shifter which works exactly like RapidFire except that instead of a push pull you can push push which means rider has no reason to say that this shifter is not comfortable. Besides this the Rear Derailleur are now seperated into two systems, low normal or high normal which is a good thing for most riders. Rumours say that the new XTR will have carbon components which is a must if there are planning to beat SRAM X.0. The only problem that Shimano must face if they want people to buy their DualControl lever is that they must make their DC lever lighter then Brake Lever+Shifter weight summed up together. Cause I did some comparing and the weight of Brake Lever+Shifter is lighter then DC Lever (I compared it by making the price almost the same) Oh yeah, Shimano must also make their DC lever cheaper then buying a brake lever and Shifter seperately. ^^. Hope Shimano is reading this forum, it will make them know what riders want

Hey guys keep in mind what you are seeing in these pictures are actually painted clay mock-ups of what the new stuff is suppose to look like. I worked inside the industry years ago and made the trips to One Shimano Way in Irvine for the new product intros and they show them in clay with a couple rough looking working samples that product managers can only ride in the parking lot. Product managers see these early and are given the book with upgrade features so they can begin to piece together the next years models.

a) Think that people are calling Shimano copycats because they are claiming that they are innovating. In the case of their push-push shifter they are indeed copying. That's not to say that Shimano doesn't innovate on other days (centerlock brake rotors, dual control on MTB) but people often are very skeptical about whether their "innovation" is simply intended to make everything incompatible and force people to buy Shimano. BTW, if you didn't notice Shimano didn't invent RevoShift either. They simply copied a well marketed concept from SRAM.

b) Shimano did not invent low normal derailleurs. They simply resurrected them from the grave. Why they died ... I don't know. But if they died before, you can be sure that someone didn't sell enough. My personal opinion is that low-normal was a solution to certain problems in dual control having to do with the strength of the human hands in the directions dual control moves. Ultimately dual-control shifting is slower because you cannot force the chain in either direction. It's smoother YES, but ... SLOWER.

c) Shimano could care less about anyone's comfort. They are a corporation. To them introducing a push-push shifter is simply a way of recapturing some market share that SRAM took from them. Shimano's biggest mistake was limiting supply a couple years ago to drive up prices. That's when SRAM started appearing stock on bikes from a LOT of manufacturers. Now consumers are starting to ask for push-push and Shimano wants to have an option in that category just like they wanted an option in grip shifters.

Shimano really does make great products. I am a big SRAM fan. But I don't understand the anti-Shimano crowd for the saking of anti-Shimano. When it comes to cranks and hubs, I'll go straight to Shimano for their exceptional reputation an relatively inexpensive price.

Shimano? love 'em or hate 'em ,they are laughing all the way to the bank... :)
You WILL deal & buy regardless of how great their innovations or xeroxings are.
Personally, i think the combo Brake/shift levers are great for fast aggressive type cc driving.

I agree with willtsmith_nwi, gripshift is not invented by Shimano at all, I got a MTB book and it says gripshift is designed by SRAM. Anyway, both company wants to get a lot of money so copying each other a little bit is sure to happen, even in cars. But it looks like 2007 Shimano is trying to get back their customers by giving them LOTS of choices, such as dual release for the push push type of people or for the RapidFire fans. And thank god the rotors are no more centre lock, even though some people loves the XTR disc brake but they will leave it cause of centre lock. I heard that for 2007 Shimano Dual Control will be revised to make it better. Lets wait and see. And they must make is cheaper then SRAM to get people to buy back their products ^^. I wonder if SRAM derailleur moves like Shimano??(Dual Pantagraph)

Hmm, I wonder what SRAM is coming out for 2007? I heard they are focusing on Road Bike Technology but Im wondering where is SRAM MTB 2007??? I found some articles but it seems its only minor improvement over the past year. The only thing I will love is that I can now own a X.7 that works and looks exactly like X.9 for the year of 2007 cause I heard that the X.0 has got more carbon, X.9 has been redesigned and looks more like a little brother of X.0 except that it has 0% carbon and resouces say that the old version of X.9 will drop to X.7 series which means 2005/2006 X.9 = 2007 X.7. Anyway the most important factor is which company is selling better derailleur and managed to sell it cheap. Thats the most important factor for now. Oh yeah anyone care to explain does SRAM rear derailleur moves like Shimano Dual Pantagraph (Find through Shimano Technology site) Rear Derailleur??
