Mountain Biking - please help! Ellsworth question!

so i'm buying a bike tomorrow. i'm not a mountain biker (yet), i'm a single speed rider, but i'm making the plunge into mtb'ing and don't want to mess around. after alot of searching i'm pretty set on the ellsworth truth or the moment. can anyone help me decide? i've only been able to demo a truth, and it was awesome, but it seems like the moment is more of an all-around ride. i just hate the extra weight. am i being stupid to buy the truth? should i get the moment? aaagh! i don't wanna f this up, since it's alot of payment on my credit card :( thanks for the advice ahead of time...

I've heard that the new Moment frameset (with the new rocker arms) is lighter than the '05 and older Truth framesets or at least roughly the same (I haven't seen numbers to prove this yet, so this is just third hand estimation really). However, yes, the Moment's build kit will likely weigh more than a Truth's. Unless you're going to be racing, pick the one that has the travel and geometry that you'll enjoy the most, weight should likely be the least of your worries.

Whats wrong with the Epiphany (the bike formerly known as the ID)?

It sounds like if you are torn between the moment and the truth, it should fit your bill.

So? He isn't new to riding. Good for him to not settle for some of the lower end stuff. Especially as a sser, they are usually pickier ;), so might as well go with one of the best. If I ever decided to get a road bike I wouldn't start with a low end one, thats for sure.

As a couple of other have hinted, you don't need to decide the bike, you need to decide how you plan to ride it. And if you can't decide, why not look at the epipheny(sp), it is in between the two in every way. Might suit the confusion a bit more.

I imagine you've seen the phenomenom, especially given your residence in Whistler. How many times have you seen someone go buy a big-hit bike and decide that it just isn't for them?

Its hard to live in this town and decide it isn't for you. Its usually the other way around. Someone buys a "normal" bike and ends up wishing they had something with a little cush :)...

But I have also seen what you are talking about, I just assume someone who already rides, likely has an idea of what floats their boat :)

I 'spose that not too many people who decide they enjoy mtb'ing would regret having purchased a nice bike.

In any case - it looks like Ellsworth fixed some of their previously problematic durability issues, and choosing which bike the OP will purchase from their product line would have to be a decision based upon riding style...

i am very picky about my ride... i started off intending to get the superlight or the '04 cannondale jeckyll, but quickly moved through the giants, the konas, i tried to ride all i could. i'm not 16, so i want to get a nice ride that is going to last, and i ain't gonna buy a ****ty bike and upgrade it in two months so.... anyways, the truth ended up fitting right i just hope it can hold up when i choose to do some downhilling... we'll see...
