Growing up in NC and watching The Andy Griffith Show, the antics of Barney Fife were always my favorite. I could care less about who does what on TV and in the movies but he was a big part of my childhood. The movie he did with Tim Conway called Private Eyes was also very funny. He'll be missed by a lot of us hillbillys.

R.I.P. Mr. Knotts.
Knotts died at age 81 of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California. The Los Angeles Times reports that Knotts suffered from lung cancer.

"Nip it in the bud"!
Great actor who meant much to many people, me included. I feel old :(
Oddly, look at John Ritter, much the same style....if you're a fan.

And just to make this bike related - can anybody identify the bike he regulary rode in his role as Barney Fife in the Andy Griffith show?
I actually had the pleasure of knowing Don, having worked with him on a series of spots for am/pm mini markets back in the mid 80's. Nicest guy you'd ever meet. Loved to tell the old stories if you asked.
May you rest in peace Don.

This makes me really sad. I noticed my best friend tried to call me several times today, but I got in too late to take his call, now I know why, since we were both big fans. This is terrible.

Yeah, I'm from Mt. Airy, NC (Andy Griffith's hometown - the inspiration for Mayberry)
- I'll bet they have flags at half-mast today. Probably an official day of mourning,
soon to be Barney Fife Day, or something like that.

Don't remember the whole song, but it ended with
"He had one bullet for his gun and kept it in his pocket"
R.I.P. Don Knotts :(
Private Eyes w/Tim Conway was hilarious!

Remember that scene in Ghost And Mr. Chicken where he does his nervous guy bit in front of a crowd in the town square. Someone from the audience shouts "Atta Boy, Luther." Laughed so hard I peed my pants.

"I threw the book at the wall and WHOOSH it opened. I threw the book and WHOOSH. I threw the book and whoosh"
Growing up "The Ghost & Mr Chicken" was one of my favorites, along with "The Incredible Mr. Limpet"
