Mountain Biking - Giant Stp 2 for someone who wants to get into street?

I was just wondering if, this would be a good bike to start with. I know a lot of street, but I'm finding the bruiser is much better for Freeride/Dj, so I'm thinking about getting a street/trials bike.

A kid in my bike club rides one and its a really good bike for street. Girlscout13 has ridden it quite a bit and he says its a nice ride.

Might be some reasons you want steel. Concrete would mess the AL bad, also the frames are flexed.

Frames made with a hit in mind. Frames are small, urbans trials often 24 inch wheel.
Le Toy frames are AL and 24?, 243Racing are 26 or 24 inch wheel chromoly.

If you want to do street, get the right tool for the job and get a BMX bike.

If you want to do trials too, the STP would be good though..

Ya if you wanna do street get a bmx thats what i got and its fun, but for trails the STP is good or i would go with a Specialized P1 P2 or P3.

So you'll ride a bulky, overly heavy in the wrong places bike with poorly suited geometry to the type of riding, with a suspension fork that does save your ass if you land wrong, but also sucks up some of the terrain you're trying to ride, and bounces around when you don't want it to instead?

I dont have any of those problems with my urban bike, and its far from bulky at 29lbs.

Thats a lame suggestion, sorry. Whats wrong with urban on a mtbike. They tend to fit ENTIRELY differently. I hate the way a bmx fits. My answer was buying a Transition Trail or Park. Fits fine and has a similar geometry to a freestyle bmx, BUT IT FITS ADULTS.

Heck if you want to do trials, go get a trials MX. Thats how it should be done....

If anyone wants quick pricing on some solid dj/fr frame Ben at http://www.unrealcycles.com/ usually has a good array of frames to peruse through. There are a lot that come under 500$

i think the stp is a little heavy for trials. deffinitely a good urban bike though. bmx sucks for urban, especially if you're a mountain biker. totally different feeling. they cannot go nearly as big as a mtb. i would have to say a bmx is not "the right tool for the job." an URBAN mtb is the right tool for the job. keep the bmx in the skate parks.

the p-bike cro-mo frames are excellent. my friend's rides wonderfully for both urban and trials. the steel frame soaks up everything and doesnt jar you like the stp's frame would.

Well, I guess it depends on the type of street.. if it's going as big as you can and tricking off the tiniest things you can find, or pretty much anything involving tricks, a BMX would be best.

If it's just airing out of things, or dropping staircases and throwing in an x-up or tabletop here and there, I guess an street MTB would save your ass a little.

If it's urban trials, you're not gonna be happy with a street MTB (especially if it's an SS and geared properly for street)...

And clifford_bgrddg, watch a BMX video with street and park sometime. You'd be surprised how big they do go.

bmx bikes are fun. but if you dont want to do tricks on them, they are useless.

so if you want to learn tricks, go bmx. i would get the mtb though a trail or park is a nice frame.
