Looks like they are ditching Dual Control.

More to come in May.
Are they really going to fully ditch DCL or are they just offerring both now? Yes, I know they still offered RF shifters even with DCL but those weren't newly designed ones... just LX shifters carried over from the past. It does seem as if Shimano's flip-flop shifters have flopped.

Seeing the triggers back might mean that possibly in 2008 10-speed will infect the mtb ranks. :(

Well, I think that was always a possibility but I'm confused as to why one would be related to the other. Is there something technically imposing that would have prevented Shimano from doing 10sp with DCL? It didn't seem to stop them in the road market. Mind you, I do welcome the return of focus on trigger shifters.
Is that really a bad thing though? OR would 10 speed make alot of 8 and 9 speed stuff incompatible?
If they come out with 10 speed, id probably ditch the FD and go with a 1x10 setup.

IT would most likely put a complete end to 8 speed, and 9 speed stuff would start vanishing.

Crap, I really like Dual Control. I can certainly live without 10-speed rear as well.

Welcome the skinny ass weak, roadie chain
That's what I'm worried about. I have 8-sp stuff on both my bikes, and they're staying that way until the stuff wear out to the point of non-functioning.

I had to welcome that a long time ago when I switched to 9-speed. The Shimano CN-7700 chain that came with my XTR group snapped a sideplate a couple of months after I got it. I switched over to SRAM and then later Wippermann and haven't had a problem but I suspect that unless chainmakers do something special when 10-speed MTB groups rollout, we're going to be seeing even a higher rate of chain failures than we did with 9-speed.

Ya I wasn't part of that change. I came into the spot when 9 spd was common and 8 spd was going out. But I remember a2 fighting it like a machine. I broke a fair number of chains till I spent the extra on wipperman.
Considering right now I refuse to ride shimano it doesn't matter much unless sram makes the same mistakes shi!mano does :D

ok, they look great - i want one - but i'm getting a rockhopper comp disc (like flak and chone, thx for the pics of each colour, but i can't decide between the two) at the end of this month. when do these derailleurs come out? jan. 1 2007 or hopefully a lot sooner?
also, when does specialized release pictures of the 07 rockhoppers? if they start looking like the current p2's and hardrock pro's, i'm not getting this year's rh's.. just cuz it'll look much better next yr...
I don't ever want to go to 9 or 10 speed. I guess I will have to start buying up 8spd stuff. I hate shimano.
The xt derailleur looks good...but why on earth do they always insist on using those cheezy shift indicators?? Has ANYONE ever actually used that to determine what gear they're in?? I like the OLD xt/xtr shifters from the early 90s....small and simple
Haha has anyone seen the LandRider bike TV infomercial? The bike that shifts automatically. This one guy was like "Its great because you don't have to look down to switch the gears" LoL uhh who needs to look down in the first place.
i just saw some 07 stuff in an mba issue. the xtr looks like crap.
fox stuff looks really, really good. and a new "avid ultimate" brake system doesnt look half bad.
I stopped in at one of my favourite LBSes today in order to check out what they had in stock in terms of cyclocross bikes (I'd like one for commuting) and spied an S-Works Stumpjumper FSR Carbon built up with SRAM X-0 shifters and rear derailleur. It did have XTR disc brakes, XTR cassette and an XTR FD though. The X-0 stuff is simply beautiful... especially the shifters.
I went for a ride with the guys from my LBS today. Never tried XT hydros before then....man were they smooooooth at the lever! I was thinking juicy before, but now im thinking XT!

but anyway, Im thinking of waiting till Giant Ships in the new Shimano equipped Anthem, cause its stupid to buy a bike and you must upgrade its shifter in 6months and its expensive to do so

Why must you have the '07 Shimano shifters? What does it do for you that the '06 wouldn't? If you're going to be holding off on purchasing anyway, I suppose that's fine, but if you're going to wait for the "next best thing" you will keep finding something to wait for endlessly :).

i think 10 speed is over kill too. i do have 9 speeds, but i can live with a 6 speeds which i have on my other bikes. ill just wait for 12 speeds.
Welcome the skinny ass weak, roadie chain
this is why my MTB is still 7-speed.
Its like the razor world, first was the one blade straght razor, then the dual blade, then the tripple. I know I have seen a 4 blade razor now... who knows i would not be supprised to see a 5!
I only use the last 4 rear cogs (the smallest 4) and my middle chain ring... What the heck would I do with yet another gear in the rear?
10 speed is really not needed, and from what I can make from above not wanted by many.

well - nav - you clearly didnt do a research on 07 Shimano shifter before you replied my post, you see the dual release on the shimano shifter pic above? Thats the huge difference between 06 and 07 shifter, dual release means you can use your thumb or your index to shift which is means the shifter could be a push-pull type or a push-push type(SRAM style) by the way, 07 Shimano Shifter can ReLeAsE two cogs at once instead of the traditional 1 cog release, of coarse you still can release 1 cog.

Enter the Gillette Fusion:eek:

I just 'upgraded' to the mach 3 (the 8 speed group of shavers) so I have a way to go. I guess.

I think the newest Gillette is five blades http://gadgets.zive.cz/images/2005/09zari/fusion.jpg
I'm not going to go back to Shimano so I don't think this effects me, unless, like Mael said, SRAM decides to make the same mistakes as Shimano. I absolutely love my X.9 derailleur and X.0 trigger, it's amazing

Judging by the number of posts here where people say "I was in 2 in the front and 3 in the back," I would say yes, unfortunately.

Me too. I recently went to the new Saint rear shifter and I like it a lot - no indicator, stubbier paddles, short, quick throws, and it's designed to be mounted outboard of the brake lever.

I like my X.0 trigger, because of the adjustabilty, the versatility, the ease of use and maintenance, and it's awesome looking to boot.

ok well technically that Gillette Fusion has 6 blades so it's even one up from five, it has a single "detailing" blade

Actually you don't even get another gear, just closer ratios, so its a total waste.
anyone know when this 2007 shimano stuff is likely to be in store??

I don't know man, my Juicy 5's are super smooth at the lever. From what I've read...set up and maintenance is so much easier too.

Well if im not mistaken 2007 Shimano will arrive in stores around october. Is it me or is the SRAM SX5 RD looks exactly like last year 2005 Sram X.9 RD?
Well if im not mistaken 2007 Shimano will arrive in stores around october.
I think it might depend. I'm told that 2007 bikes will start hitting the stores in July. Now of course that's no guarantee that those bikes will be the ones with 2007 components. They might delay shipping of those particular bikes or re-spec them with older stock. However, I'm sure that would hurt sales for those following the news.
