Touring - Front rack to fit 1999 Judy XC Rock Shox?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm planning a 5-week tour on my 1999 Gary Fisher Big Sur. I've done shorter tours with only a rear rack and panniers, but I'll need more packing room for this longer trip. I want to get a rack for the front but see no way of attaching one to my Judy XC Rock Shox. The right fork has no spot for a bolt. Has anyone come across this? Is my only solution to replace the fork?

Many thanks!
chris

Old Man Mountain (Sherpa, Cold Springs), Tubus (http://www.tubus.net, look at the Swing),.......

I'm sure Bruce Gordon will post soon telling you he's got just the rack ;o)

Came across this rack, I have no idea if it's good quality or the company's rep. Just might be nice to take a look to see if it might work for you. Happy Hunting! ;)

P.S. This company is also selling Surly LHT's for about $390.00 if anyone is in the market....

That's just an Old Man Mountain rack by another name.

I researched this more and decided to tow my gear instead of packing 4-5 bags on my bike. The Bob Yak seems to fit the profile of what I need, and I'm pleased to read on this site many positive comments about the trailer.

Many thanks for your replies! chris

I was going to suggest a Bob for your bike. Suspended mountain bikes really aren't ideal for mounting racks.

You'll absolutely LOVE your Bob by the time you get gack. Everything packs easier and you don't have to spend so much time making sure it's as compact as possible.

Be SURE to carry a spare tire and a couple of spare tubes.
