you were foolish to think it was so simple. so was i.

turns out i need 165mm crank arms with a 135mm bcd (bold circle diameter).

the only ones i've been able to find are campagnolo and miche, and while they are both fine companies, they tend to be a little rich for my blood.

my suspicion is that there are other brands out there that i don't know about that meet these requirements.

you're buying a crankset based on a chainring you picked up at a swapmeet?

135 BCD is campy standard for road, i can't think of anyone else (besides miche) who makes a 135 BCD crank - that is, unless you're looking at crazy expensive road cranks.
try finding yourself a set of used miche cranks.
according to current specs, campy doesn't even make a 165mm road crank.

otherwise you have plenty of other options of decent cranksets in 165mm in other BCDs. Sora, Sugino Rd's in 130. bulletproof/sugino Xd's in 110, suntour cyclones in 160mm 130 BCD from sheldon...

ribble cycles in the UK will ship stronglight track cranks to the US. slighty over $100 usd new. 130BCD, 165. Cost much more getting them domestic.

I was the one who got the set with the DA BB... No pic was included so I hope they arrive in good shape. I think 115 was a pretty good deal :)

I use a campy athena I bought used for $20 + a miche ring. 170mm cranks, and i didn't have trouble with pedal strike on a road conversion once I switched to track pedals. But yeah if you gotta have 165 I'm thinking you should not wory about the BCD, and just get a crank AND chaniring for under $100. It's not that hard.

If you absolutely must have 135mm, I got nuthin. If you can deal with 130mm, here's a set of Sugino RD cranks INCLUDING an alloy 3/32 48t ring for $53.

I've got a set in the mail right now...

What about a Sugino XD 110/74 triple ($85), best BCD for giving lots of chain ring choices, drop the 135mm constraint

yeah, i guess that doesn't make a lot of sense, i just thought things were a bit simpler. turns out i was wrong, and only learned about BCD and all that last night.

SUMMERINSIDE: i can't pm, but you can contact me through my blog or else we can talk on a sunday ride.

WHat i would do is to get a set of campy chorus or something like for less than 100 bucks at ebay, u can even get them brend new because nobody wants them. Or if u r lucky a set of miche primato pista (I got mine in 95 bucks brand new at ebay, the guy posted them for 2 mins and i bought them) Do u want 165mms cracks because of going to the track or because u r like tatoo?? 170 its fine in track anyways...

because my wife is short (4'11") and has a low bottom bracket on the bike in question, which we are going to convert together.

4'11" eh?
she might want even shorter cranks then. like 160's or even 155's
if that's the case, you're pretty much limited to those bulletproof BMX cranks
