So my club staged a time trial Saturday. 5 mile steady climb with the last 100 meters at 11%. I had praticed the week before and had 45 seconds better time than Saturday even though I did keep my HR at pretty much the same level, no water bottles on the second (slower) try, and I had a longer/smarter warm up for last saturday.
I didn't feel too sore after the ride and so I rode with my friend today over the hills of Palos Verdes (plus the switchbacks if you're anywhere familiar with that) in LA.
Anyway, my legs were shot. my heart rate was relatively low by anytime I reached AT my legs would start throbing and I coulnd not go beyond this point. Simple conclusion, TT efforts even though short will need recovery time.
So my question, in the week leading to a TT that you will do, what kind (if at all) of training will you do to stay sharp? I did a semi TT effort last wednesday and was wondering if I should ahve just stayed of the bike completely last week.
