i'm on the hunt for a 1" straight blade fork, preferably black. threaded or not? doesn't matter, haven't bought a stem or headset yet. i've read around (used the search function) and i know that most often when people upgrade their forks they go to carbon fiber, so there isn't a big market for steel or aluminum forks. carbon is fine with me too, but either unpainted or black.

anyway, i'm on a budget, under $100 is nice and the farther under the better. i've been surfing ebay but haven't run into too much luck, straight blade carbon forks seem to be expensive and i haven't run across any metal ones yet.

any other options? any you've come across? (new or used) even just help on who makes straight blade forks would be nice. anyway, i'm keeping my eye peeled but figured a few extra eyes couldn't hurt...

There is also the bikeworks fork. http://www.bikecult.com/works/parts/FKgenSB.html . Not a track fork but $57 can't be beat.

what makes a "track" fork over a road fork? other than no brake hole obviously not being a road fork...

I bought this and love it. BUT the price is so cheap because the race crown has to be changed by your lbs. They leave extra metal so it will make it more generic for everyone. so add about 25 bucks to that 57.

great fork though... i love mine.

I have it as well and have nothing bad to say. My LBS only charged me $5. I would say that the 40mm rake makes it a road fork. Most track ones are between 25mm to 35mm. I have a conversion so it fit the bill.

Bump! Just wondering what the max tire clearance is on the bikeworks straight-blade fork (http://www.bikecult.com/works/parts/FKgenSB.html)

I've fit 28's in there but it was tight. I normally run 25's.

Not really. Rake, brake hole and lawyer tabs = road fork

sorry to ask but, what is the race crown?

dutret

the crown race is the part of the headset that fits onto the fork near the crown. The fork is a bit bigger here so the crown race will fit snugly. It is this part that he is refering to milling.

I assumed that there weren't tabs on a track bike only a street bike. Good to know.

How can it be straight and a blade at the same time? Sounds like one confused fork.

EDIT: nm, its not the same fork.

I also ran 28s, and they were tight but worked fine. I don't really think you could call this a track fork. Its nice but its a bit flexy too.
Yeah, I think I'm puttin' this one on the ol' geared whip anyways.

Anyone have the bikeworks fork? Id like to see a pic of it installed.
