Foo - Whoo hoooo! I'm going wireless!

Well, I got my high speed. I've got my wireless set up. Today, I got my wireless adapter for my tivo AND my internet telephone. So tonight, while I'm preparing to put together my profile for the spinning class I'm teaching in the morning, I'm going to attempt to get one of the two up and running. I'd like to get the internet telephone going first- I have so many European friends to call it's not even funny. And I miss them like crazy and I hate doing msn messenger when I can hear them talking to me person to person. Then tomorrow, I will most likely attack the tivo.

In two weeks, I get my dvd burner, then I'll start burning the stuff I've saved on my tivo to the dvd player once I've uploaded everything onto my computer and off my tivo dvr. Whooooo hoooooo! Yay!

You gotta be kidding! Techno geek? I barely even know what I'm talking about right now! I'm still trying to figure out how to splice my cable so I can tape Tivo on one channel and watch on another. ;)

Well, you talk a good game. Sounds like you'll need a signal splitter and another receiver to do what you're talking about. Or you could google Tivo hacks.

You just need a cable splitter. You can buy one anywhere. Split the cable where it leaves the wall. You now have two cables. Run one to the Tivo, the other to the tv. This is providing that your tv is modern enough to have seperate inputs for the tivo.

You can use RCA, or s video for the tivo to run to the tv, then just run the other cable coming out of the wall to the tv. Remember the other one goes to the tivo. Then just switch inputs on your tv to switch between tivo and regular tv. Sounds harder than it is.

- good job! and glad to hear you've got your broadband connection... wireless is the only way to go, IMHO...

- and Tivo is a good system (it uses Linux, of course)... i could never pop for the service, so i wrote my own PVR (personal video recorder) script and use the atd daemon and the 'at' command to schedule my recording (i use a cheap $29 PCI TV card):

Heh. I can't afford Tivo, and I don't care to waste my time tieing up one of my machines with an OS that I can't do anything with so I just do 100% without TV. It's very relaxing and the once a week I visit my parents then I can appreciate their HDTV, albeit usually gets old by the end of the day.

btw - a signal splitter can be purchased at Radio Shack, Wal Mart, Circuit City, etc. Should be not much more than $5.00 - if that. You'll also need a couple short cables to go from the splitter output to the devices. If you can connect a cable to your TV, you can do this with no problem.

I just got tivo this month. I am addicted. I am actually starting to like tv now again. Before i didn't watch anything but the news basically. (just to catch next days riding weather.) Now I go online and schedule stuff while i am at the office. Then every night when i go home there is a smorgasbord of shows that i like to watch. Plus i can ff through all the commercials.

I even got to watch the AMgen Tour of California. I have never seen any cycling programming on my crappy cable except for some crappy Tour DeFrance coverage. The Tour of California ran in the middle of the night and tivo was nice enough to capture it for me.

I also have a favorite search for Lance Armstrong set up. It recorded a Discovery show that i haven't gotten to watch yet. It really makes paying for cable worth while because now i get to watch just what i want. I am a believer.

The only thing that i don't like is the fee. Makes me mad because it is just the equivilant of a DVD recorder, that records to HDD. It just has the extra functionality of the programming interface.

If you really wanted to, you could probalby buy a recorder that does the same thing or build yourself some MCE equiv that does it. I can't be bothered to watch TV let alone go out of my way for it

No Tivo here, but I still fondly remember that first Saturday morning I lounged around in bed cruising the internet.

Make sure to read up on secruity issues regarding wireless. Especially if you do any kind of banking/bills/buying online.

I don't do that pay per month nonsense. I paid it all up front, and I was good to go.

As soon as I get my Tivo wireless, I'll be able to get the cable upgrades for my onDemand. That way, I get my expanded cable, which may or may not have Fit tv. I'm crossing my fingers.

I have a Media Center PC. It's like having a tivo without any additional fees. As long as they keep the guide updated, it's a wonderful thing.
