I recently had a close call with my Times Comp clipless MTB pedals. I was going home from work (I commute), when the pedal just snapped off mid-sprint, out of my saddle. My foot slammed to the ground as I was going 15+mph. I still don't know how I kept from crashing.

Has anyone else had a problem with these pedals before?

What do you mean exactly by "snapped off"? Did the spindle(s) break? Did the spring(s) break? Did it accidently release?

If it was an accidental release, you may want to check your cleats. Maybe they're borked/chipped or worn? Maybe the bolts are loose. Although worn cleats and loose bolts usually result in not being able to release.

The plastic between the spindle and the metal cuff snapped. It was funny because the pedal was still attached to my foot as I was scraping the pavement with it.

Take it as a sign you are a strong rider.. go for the TI ones next time :P

I've never heard of that happening before, how old where the pedals?

I assume you ae sending them back to Time for replacement and compensation for ruined sorts.There could be a defect that could be grounds for a recall.

I had a similar experience. However, my crank arm broke instead of the pedal. Just like you, my foot came slamming down, but I didn't crash. I thought that I had just come unclipped. However, when I stopped, the pedal and the end of the crank arm were still attached to my shoes.

It sounds like a defect in the pedal to me.
