Touring - baltimore to philadelphia

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

anyone made this trip? What route did you take? Looked into the Eastcoast Greenway, but 90% of this section has not been mapped...

Someone posted last year that the rode Philly to Balto mostly on route 1. Sounded like it worked.

From downtown B'more, you could do something like this to get to the Northern Central Railroad Trail (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/greenways/ncrt_trail.html) (NCR Trail):

Follow the NCR Trail into PA. At New Freedom the trail becomes the York Heritage Trail (http://www.fallinpa.com/fallinpa/railsToTrails.jsp?section=yorkTrail). Follow the York Heritage to York, PA. From there, you should be able to take Pennsylvania Bicycle Route S (ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/public/pdf/bikes/state_mapS.pdf) to get close to Philly or you could follow Route S to it's termination and pick up PA Bike Route E (currently NOT off-road) which takes you south into the heart of Philly.

NCR, York Heritage Trail and bike route S would probably be the prettiest way.
More YHT info with map http://ycwebserver.york-county.org/Parks/RailTrail.htm
Route 1 is probably the shortest.
