OMIGOSH!! i didn't even see this! lol! thank you!

i didn't get to ride on my birthday (i know... sacriledge... did i spell that correctly!)

however i did get a new car ON my birthday! something nice to carry the bikes IN instead of on the bike rack off the back of the truck! so i guess it's ok... right?

Cool! :) What kind of car? And did you get a good dual zone climate control system and heated seats to keep you nice and comfy?

jschen

Did you get the Honda Element that you wanted?

caligurl
03-01-06, 01:31 PM
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we looked at the element and decided it was... well... not for us.... the inside is too sparse! too plain! it was a long, grueling process.... we wanted a new rav4... they are big enough for the bikes... good gas mileage... and had a bit of "cush" to it.. but finding a V6 sport model was next to impossible! so we kept looking... didn't like the xterra either.... too sparse again..... didn't like any of the other "cute utes" so then started looking at the next size up... i liked the murano... checked out the pilot.... then we looked at the infiniti fx.. i was in LOVE! i was SO ready to buy one! then i started researching it (i tend to OVER research when buying a vehicle) and found out you can't input addresses and info into the navi while the vehicle is in motion! WTH? 99% of the inputting in my accord was done while the driving down the road (hubby driving.. me inputting)... we never even sat in the driveway waiting for the navi system to "power up".. we'd leave and once we were going i'd put in the addy.. of if we were out somewhere and think of someplace we wanted to look for or had the addy for.. i'd imput it.. couldn't do it with the fx... i was SO dissapointed.. but knew it would irk me every time we had to stop to use the navi....

i wasn't crazy about the pilot.. i mean.. it was ok... but something about it after seeing the fx... i just didn't like... didn't like the lexus' navi... wasn't even thrilled with the bmw... sooooooo we ended up with the acura mdx.... since honda/acura have the best in car navi system.... it's a nice vehicle... and no... sadly one of the few things it doesn't have (surprisingly, too) was no dual climate control? but it does have heated seats and a separate climate control for the rear seat passengers (so we can set the a/c way cold when we have brie (samoyed) in the car!)

the navi is better than on my accord (well.. it's 3 years newer!) the ride is smooth... it's comfortable... and the bikes fit INSIDE!

we chose nighthawk black pearl with ebony interior... all mdx's (or maybe all touring verions?) come with what they call zebra wood.. it looks nice.. i would have preferred aluminum or carbon or a mixture.. but hey... the zebra is pretty (it's black.. not black and white like it sounds!)! we even got the additional wood around the guages cuz it was already on the vehicle and they can't take it off! added a spoiler and fender flares for looks! *rolls eyes* it's got xm.. and i've already been informed we'd be subscribing to it when our 3 month trial is up... i love the blue tooth... no more wearing my little bluetooth ear thingy! (which was hard to hear with!) we were going to add chrome side steps.. but my leg rubbed on it every time i got out... and to use it to get in and out was WAY awkward! darn it.. cut it lookes REALLY purdy with them on!

do you want the tv show "reba"? if you do.. you'll understand what i mean when i say i felt like barbara jean yesterday when sitting in my car talking to the onstar lady when activating our onstar! i can't wait to accidently "lose" my car so i can call to have them honk the horn and blink the lights.. or may less noisy... "lock my keys" in it so they can unlock it! tee hee! i'm so easily amused!

ok... so there is probably WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than you wanted to know about our new car! lol!

OH! and i highly recommend internet shopping/pricing! OMG it was easy! you write to dealers... get prices and then tell them "i have a lower quote" and if they wanted to sell you the car.. they dropped their price.. they don't "play" you chose another dealer.. when you actually drive to the dealership... no haggling.. no hassle.. the price is the price you determined via email! i kept waiting for them to play the "number" game.. and they never did.... no writing on the paper and taking it to whoever... etc etc etc... they didn't argue about the accessories that were on the car that they had to take off (or the ones they couldn't take off but weren't part of the deal! didn't even try to sell us any of the other accessories (we actually had to ask about the gorgeous wood steering wheel and he told us we didn't want it living in the desert.. it gets too hot! whoa! to easy!)

Sounds like an exciting search for a car. I understand what you mean about not being able to find a car optioned just right... understand it all too well, really. Glad to hear you were able to find something you seem to like.

And it's not too much info... I've subjected some members of Foo to far more info about my recent car search. Everything from debating price range to analyzing expected tire costs.

What's with SoCal and heated seats? I mean really, does it get that cold that you can't stand to sit on a cold seat?

BTW - Congrats on the car! Gonna post pics?

The Porsche's nice. But very expensive, especially in the Turbo variant.

Only thing about Internet shopping is that it doesn't work well if what you're looking for is rare. In those cases, classical methods still work best. Call every dealership to see who has one or can verify expected delivery of one (including expected delivery date). Pick from available choices. Tell that salesperson you'll be there ASAP to discuss the price in person. Get there ASAP. Offer a reasonable price, a few hundred above invoice. Negotiate over a few bucks here and there. Sign paperwork ASAP in case some person willing to pay full MSRP for that same car walks in.

With careful research ahead of time, the hassles aren't too bad. My family's usually done discussing price within about 10 minutes.

I mentioned that to my mom on Sunday night shortly after our discussion about it. She told me that she and my dad use their heated seats all the time on winter mornings since it's more comfortable that way.

ok... short answer: i'm spoiled!

it gets cool... for me i consider it cold! (you get acclimated to the 40's being cold when it's over 120 in the summer!) i use it when hubby keeps the inside cooler than i like.... keeps my butt warm! lol!

as for pictures... i haven't taken any... didn't get home til after midnight on monday.... plus it's actually filthy! i've never brought home a new car that was dirty before.. but socal had a huge rainstorm monday evening.. and my poor new car got driven home in it! as soon as hubby washes it i'll take pics! it gets it inaugural "take the bikes to a bike ride" this weekend!

If you're going to make such a saddle for the SoCal market, make sure it's both heated and ventilated. That, or at least separately patent a ventilated saddle.

Does it need dual ******** climate control too for separate cheek comfort? Gaaaahhhh! :p

jschen

^^^No, but it would help. And a fore/aft temperature gradient control, separately controlled on both sides, of course.

jyossarian
03-01-06, 04:59 PM
what if i built a vibrator into the nose for women's saddles? or even for men's saddles? for ventilation, i'll just place a fan on the underside facing rearward. not your rearward, the bike's rearward.

Happy Birthday Caligurl - so it was the MDX? It took a couple reads to figure out what you actually did get. :D Nice choice, and an excellent present.

why dont people just find a 3rd generation accord like i did, buy it for like $1,000(or less most of the time) put in about $1500 into it. And you have a garunteed car that will last. I own one, and love it. Great mileage, power, room. But if u have kdis it sucks. Oh btw im only 15 so maybe just cuz it's my first car that's why im in love. Oh and happy birthday, best of wish's. One more thing, dont get the infinity, because all inifity is just a higher priced nissan. If you notice the deisng is almost the same, engine is the same, just interior is different. But w/e you like i guess is what you get most of the time. The new RAV4 is a good vehicle, my mom is looking in to get one(currently a 05 sienna). The element is just a waste of money IMO, it doesnt look good, the interior IMO is just disgusting. I recommend a RAV4 or Honda CRV, both nice cars, but the Rav4 looks better. And like USAZorro said, but i cant figure otu what you got =(. Oh if you did get the MDX, if im not mistaken it's an Acura, good car but gas mileage in teh city is kind of poor. Good quality Mid size SUV tho
