Mountain Biking - Bike Repair Question: Is this fixable?

Hey I'm trying to save a trip down to the lbs and wondering if someone could help. Is this fixable? The adjuster on my front shock snapped off. Is there any way to open up the shock and replace the part? Or is my game over and I need to buy a new fork?

I dont think you will need to buy a new fork, if a plastic adjuster broke. You will be able to take it apart, but i guess you'll need to find replacement parts, probalby from the fork manufacturer. You might not even need to take the fork apart if the adjuster dial just snapped off the top.

if its the bike on his profile, its a norco screamer (http://www.norco.com/bikes/2004bikes/screamer.htm) with a SR Suntour XC-60 75mm fork.

Could be a bit of a challenge.

Sounds like just a new dial, as for gluing it, surely you will new to rotate the dial?

So it's called a dial eh? I'll try but I don’t think glue will work. And you say I should be able to order one from the manufacturer? By the way how do you take one of these apart? Thanks for the help so far big ++ for everybody. ^_^

Taking the fork apart is a bit more complicated.

Well the reason it snapped off was that I was twisting it the wrong way with vice grips (I know I'm a mess) so it's jammed and broken. I don't think the glue will be strong enough to allow me to un-jam it. I have a few ideas on how to un-jam it without taking the whole shock apart but looking back on prior circumstances such as this one I don’t think that would be such a good idea. I'm trying to get through this as carefully and as safely as possible.

Ok, I'll just write this down just in case somebody runs into a similar problem. I went down to my LBS and they gave me an old dial off one of their old shocks, apparently they're pretty abundant. So I came back and tried to use vice grips to unscrew the dial broken out of its slot. I ended up breaking all the ridges around the outside where I would normally unscrew the dial. So I did something I would not advise anyone to do and chiselled it out with a hammer and screw driver. I ended up damaging some of the internal grooves needed for the new dial to screw into. So I'm now just trying to reshape the grooves and hoping that the dial will just screw back in without stripping itself. To avoid most of this try to use a better tool to unscrew the dial, if it's stuck add some oil and try again. If it still wont unscrew take it down to your lbs and they might have better luck.

So that's basically what ended up happening, I didn’t damage the grooves too much so i think the dial will be able to go back in. I want to thank you guys who told me about the dial or anybody who gave advice. It gave me the opportunity to checkout this lbs around the corner and they turned out to be everything I ever dreamt a bike shop to be. Anyway thanks and spring is coming soon so that means new parts and good riding for everybody, good luck and stay safe.
