View Full Version : Faggin Questions

As you know by now, I just scored a Faggin frameset. I have some questions though.

My brother bought it in 83/84/ (?) at Velo Pro in Santa Barbara (downtown store) and it was the roadracing version. Not the frame I currently own, his/mine was a 55, this is a 56.

Were there other lesser models being imported at the same time in California? Or was there only one roadracing configuration? Were all the Faggins imported at that time built alike, with identical tubesets etc?

The frame I got LOOKS the same, but our memory is a tad spotty. There is no tubing decal, but I do not know if the original Faggin did either.

Any ideas?

Only know about the middle 80's, Faggin's were imported in a number of models, some Tretubi Columbus, some SL, SP some SLX. Geometry was different, some were tight some more roadrace, all had an equally low BB. They also had a few Pista frames around, in very limited qty. I thought the Tretubi frames rode beyond the pedigree, the full on frames did not get much better attention to detail nor effort, I think the better frames had Campagnolo dropouts, the lesser Gipemme or later Faggin stamped, but all looked by the same mfg.

the used bike buyers guide (thanks lou)
list the following Faggin models

Tre Venti 1986 Columbus SL tubing
TreTubi 1990 no tube listed, SL?
King 1990 Columbus SLX
SL Racing 1991 Columbus SL

Faggin has been involved in cycling since 1945, they are based in Padua Italy and are
still active (AFAIK).

Very nice bikes, they don't get the buzz of other italian bikes
that may not be their equal.

Would the top of the line frame of the mid 80's have a braze on front derailluer?

I distinctly remember the wheelbase as being very short.

Does anyone have access to images of the configurations?

My oldest brother seems to recall an oval tube or two, does this sound right?

The SLX frames had the braze on front, at least the examples I saw.

Well, it is probably for the better. I have seen 2 Faggins that were cracked at the seat cluster in identical places, these were probably SLX.

What my brother and I had was the top of the line whatever it was, and I remember a braze on front, and Campy dropouts I believe.

This frame has Gipiemme (correct?) dropouts and a front clamp style.

I will be riding it, so if it is SL, or better yet SP (I am 185), so maybe things will be better in the end.

It was just about the lightest bike for it's time, so I am now pretty sure the old one was SLX.

I will live.

My older brother is in Slovenia right now, so crazy e-mails were flowing last night while I was bidding, I think he was shnookered, so that didn't help. It was like 22 years ago for cryin' out loud!!!

My brother just E-mailed me with some particulars.

The tubeset DID have round/oval/round tubes (lugged of course), and was some wacky Columbus designation. The wheelbase was sub 98 for sure.

Has anybody heard of these tubes?
