If there are any DC-ers or Maryland-ers on the board (or anyone who's done a bit of cycling in that area), I'm looking for some routing recommendations from DC to either Point Lookout, MD, or Reedville, VA. Trying to find a nice route to either of those towns where one of the Chesapeake Bay ferries goes across the Bay to Crisfield, MD. Any takers?

I can tell you a little about going to Point Lookout. Stay on the DC side of the Patuxent River. You can't ride on the Route 4 Bridge at Solomons Island, so if you cross the Pax River before then you'll get stuck there. The area around the Patuxent Naval Air Station is growing in population, so expect a lot of traffic there. I camped at Point Lookout State Park last year. I biked on roads between the Point and St. Marys City with no problems.

It was a long time ago, so I may be making this up...

I don't know if it was the same bridge or not, but I remember reaching a toll bridge somewhere in that area that was forbidden to bicycles. The toll booth operator suggested we go back up the road to where he couldn't see us and make a little sign offering to pay the toll in exchange for a ride. It didn't take long.

Seems to me the subsequent ride was quite good too.

Sorry my memory is too foggy to offer any other tips. But there is some beautiful cycling in the area. Have fun!
