Dear all,
I need to decide on the shifters for my secret flat bar touring/hybrid/trekking nice bike. I can get deore 9 speed triggers for 21£, and lx ones in blue/black (which would match the derailleurs) for £30. What would you choose and why? Do not anticipate anything wilder than easy tracks and virginian back roads.
Would an all LX group work better/be worth more/be stolen faster?

LX are better but there is not much in it really. Deore, LX, XT and the rest all work with each other so you can mix them up if you want. Just choose whatever you think looks best on the bike and dont worry about it getting stolen because of the shifters, if thiefs want it they will take it no matter.

I havent noticed much difference between LX and Deore, or even XT and Deore to be honest, I think the internals are a bit better in the XT but the feeling is pretty similar to the deore, I would go for the Deore.

I like my LX shifters alot more than my Deore ones.

The difference between the XT and deore comes over time. The lx and deore use bushings and xt uses bearings. Over time the lower lines get sloppy a lot faster than the xt.

I would agree. Immediately, you won't see the difference. Over a year the xt deraileur will still be tight, the lx deraileur will be a little sloppy and the deore will have been replaced ;)
