"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - The future of Racing!!

Hey this shot was from my race at Pace Bend this past Sunday. The kid in the RL kit drafted off the kid behind and came around for 4th place. Really cool to see these under 12 year olds having a great time! This kid also had his sister in the race also.

Impressive! That kid looks serious and seems to have good form for such a young age.

Excellent. I enjoy watching some of the talented cyclocross juniors we have in my neck of the woods too. If they stick with it then the quality of racing goes up and up.

that's awesome. that kid looks great on that bike! better than some of the dudes i race against, that's for sure.

Aw man that's hilarious! The carefree attitude of being a kid. Imagine this, "Congratulations Dale Jr. on winning the innaugural somethingorother 500 Nascar race, now start counting to 100 while everybody in the pits hides!"

I was amazed at Pace Bend about how serious some of the kids were. I saw one girl, looked like she was 13 or 14, with HED Carbon Tubbies. Geez.

We have a 14 year old that rides with us on our training rides and does better than some of the "serious" adults.

The only problem is in a few years they're all gonna have to deal with this:

Rave, I'm just guessing that the disease that afflicts all of youth sports may have spread to cycling (MAY HAVE??!!). Parents get a little nutty buying all the best gear for their future Alex Rodriguezes, Jaromir Jagrs, Cat Ostermans, Tigers, Venuses, and now, evidently, Lances and Leontien van Moorsels. More to the point: did the young woman get after it? And will she still be riding when she discovers . . . what all young people discover at about age 16 or 17?

Yeah I was thinking this also. I'm glad to see these kids out there and hopefully getting the bug. But man there were a couple of rigs for these kids, Colnago's with CF deep v wheels that were just sick. My girls will get a decent bike but there is no way they'll be riding 5k bikes at 11.

My teammate had his kids racing in the 12 and under also...on al Treks... he's a partner in a big law firm and makes big dough yet his kids were on entry level bikes.

Ill admit that i complained about that as well, but after thinking about it it makes sense since im going to grow out of it in a year or two so why spend 3k on a bike for 3 yrs. I am completely happy with my 2005 trek 1000 for 2 or 3 yrs.

I've had to have corrective surgery due to hard cycling at a young age.


We have a 14 year old that rides with us on our training rides and does better than some of the "serious" adults.

We had a 16 year old OWN the cat 3 ADULTS on a 4 day stage race 2 years ago. In the 13 mile TT, the second place guy was almost 2 mins back.
